Interesting Paramilitary 2 detent find

Hey all.

I read a thread here where a few people had their detent ball fall out of their PM2. Sal seemed pretty interested in what was causing the detent balls to come loose and had the people send their knives in so they could be inspected and fixed. Well I got another Para 2 today (birthdate 1/14) so I took it apart to clean/lube it and found something interesting.

Looks like they ground a small ramp into the beginning of the lockface where the detent would normally "catch" when closing the knife. I'm thinking this will reduce the shock/wear on the detent ball when you close the knife. I'm not positive that this is a new addition but I'm pretty sure my other PM2's did not have this feature.

Has anybody else seen this?

But does it reduce the force that you have to apply when closing?

Yes, by a little bit. There's still an increase in resistance when you reach the ramp due to the steep angle but it is much nicer feeling than knives without this feature. I believe Lionsteel has been doing this with the Ti SR-1 for awhile now but I could be mistaken

My two PM2's have this detent...easy to see without disassembly.

I can't see it very well when the knife is together but that's just me.

I'm not trying to say I'm the first one to see this. I just don't remember seeing it on my other one that I had apart on a regular basis. It could be on all of them for all I know.

If you look at the knife closed, and shine a flashlight I can see the ramp/detent....Now both my PM2's were bought in Feb 2014.

That's interesting. I always close my compression lock folders by pulling the lock bar all the way in and swinging the blade closed so I guess this won't be an issue for me. I'll pass it on to any of my friends with PM2s.
