Hi,
This will interest ProTech fans.
I was clearing out a lot of old email. And I came across these from Dave Wattenburg who owns ProTech.
You have to read from the bottom up:

Mike –
That’s what I refer to as a “KITCHEN TABLE” knife………. As in that was one that I put together myself on my kitchen table at home. That’s a really original Pro-Tech!
That model is discontinued. We are on our 4th evolution of the RUNT concept. (the J4 RUNT)
Built in 2000 for sure. This was before we had a LOGO – just used plain text on the laser engraving of the blade as well as the box.
Yeah – probably around $100 paid. The blades for those were bead blasted at a customknifemaker friend of mine’s shop. I put them together at home on my kitchen table – drove down to my Dad’s cutlery store and he and I sharpened them……….. GOOD TIMES!
The California Legal AUTO is still a mainstay of our product line / we sell a lot of them.
Thanks for the blast from the past!

Hi Dave,
I'm hoping you can provide me with some info on a Pro-Tech I bought ages or perhaps forward this on to someone who can. I have attached a photo.
The knife is a Pro-Tech Runt. I can't even remember where I got it or even when, perhaps it was in the early 2000s.
I do remember when I got it and took it out of the box. I instantly thought, "Classic," and just put it away.
The box says, "Runt Auto Knife #018
Bead Blasted BLACK"
Imprinted on the blade is, "Pro-Tech
U.S.A
092"
There is no marking I can see which designates the steel.
Is this a first run, one of the originals? I don't recall what I paid for it but I think it was in the neighborhood of $100.
I'm, of course, interested in its current value but also interested in anything you or someone else there may be able to tell me about it.
Thank you,
Mike
