Interesting Scarab Microtech

Hi all,
I ran across an unusual Microtech Scarab today and decided to buy it. Apparently it is a Demonstrator model that has a clear scale on the back side of the knife that enables you to see the inner workings of the knife. The clip has the words "Display model only" on it. It came with a nifty carry pouch with a dagger logo imprinted on one side. Has anyone else run across one of these Scarabs? :cool:

Absolutely! It functions exactly like a normal Scarab. I believe it was meant for a dealer to display on the counter to allow potential customers to see the inner workings.
 
The only times I have seen them has been at the MT booth at shows. I am pretty sure a few have been sold at those shows.
 
Here is a pic with the blade recessed in the handle. You can see the front tip of the blade peeking out behind the double spring system at the left side of the knife.

Thank God, I thought it was a great price for such a rare knife but I was not 100% sure when I dropped the cash on the table. This guy has another one with a dark colored clip on the back for the same price. I may have to consider buying that one as well. What do you guys think?
 
Here is an image of the back side of the Scarab with the silver clip. The dealer I bought it from has another clear top Scarab available at the same price with a black clip.

Those seem like pretty rare knives. If he has another and you want it I would get it right away. Very Cool!
 
awsome and incredible...i think that for 550 you screwed him! I've seen these on the marfione customs website, but nowhere else...nice

I was kind of thinking the same thing when I saw both of them. I think you guys have convinced me that I better hustle back down there and scoop up the second one. I am not going to feel very guilty about it since this dealer is not someone who ever gives you a break on anything he sells. It's usually just the opposite as he tends to try and sell most of his inventory above MSRP especially if he thinks he has something rare. :D
 
If you are planning on using it, I would not get the second one; instead look around and save a few dollars. One can likely locate used scarabs for up to 150 less, so there is no sense in paying that much if you are going to use it. However, the clear topped one is much less likely to be found anywhere so the price you paid seems reasonable to me.
