Interesting Spare Clip Observation

I recently purchased a spare clip from CRK to have on hand for my large Sebenza. I noticed that it's a few shades lighter than the Sebenza scales. Now, my Sebenza just got back from a spa treatment so it has very little use on it. Just wondering why the spare clip is a different shade than the Ti slabs of the knife.
Thanks all.

In my experience the spa finish of the ti was never as crisp as it was originally. Maybe that varies, but it didn’t for my four spa’d CRKs.

The blasting media changes slightly from time to time, so the finish might be a little bit different, that’s why you have time of the year markings inside the scales so you can have exactly the same finish after putting the knife together. Also the stonewash finish may be a little bit different if you have knives from different years, for the same reason. Your clip is probably finished with different media than the handle.

So you're saying if I had told CRK the date markings they could've given me an exact matching clip?

Are these date markings the same as the "Born On" date on the card that comes with the knife?

No. In fact, they recently addressed this on their IG.

I wouldn't think so. I don't work there, but the logical thing to do, from the factory production point of view, would be to make a large batch of clips that would last for an estimated number of handles and then to start the new cycle with adjusting the machines, replacing parts etc. if needed. I've got sebenzas from different years and they're all a little bit different, I damaged a clip on my favorite one in a motorcycle accident and replaced it with one from my spare knife and there was a difference for sure, I didn't really mind though. If you really want to have them perfectly matched, the thing to do is to have them reblasted.

Makak, yeah, I'll just wait till the handles get really beat up and then send them in for the spa treatment. I was just wondering what causes the discrepancy in color.
