So I was at one of my clients today installing a new server, router, switch, and a couple work stations. I had my Calypso with my and was using it to cut open bags of network cables. I had the knife sitting on the desk when the company owner walked in his office, Normally I don't let a knife sit out at a clients but these guys are an exception, I knew they cold care less. To my suprise though he picks it up and goes, "ah a calypso, I love spyderco, damn things saved my life."

So I prod him a bit and get the story. him and his wife(ex now) where out walkin on a frozen lake following the tracks of a snowmobile and the ice gave out from under them. he went staight into the ice water and the area around him crumbled, he yelled at her to backaway so she wouldn't fall in. He got cut and torn badly from the sharp ice. It was too risky for any rescue workers to get to him, he was over 100 feet from the edge and they wweren't even able to get a rope to him I guess. All he had with him was a spyderco knife. He used it as an ice pick pull himself out of water. apperently it was like 25 attempts bfore he got himself ot of the water, but he is perfectly fine from the incident now and he credits his uality knife to his life. He told me that he wrote to Spyderco about the incident when it happened and they sent him like 5 knives for free as a thankyou for the words and the story.

So I was just wondering if you remeber this Sal and BTW, thats awesome of you guys.

Wow, talk about a baptism by fire, that guy sounds like he was instantly converted to Spyderism. Cool story, thanks for sharing.

And he also learned to stay the hell off of frozen lakes.
Great story.

ok wow, I shouldn't type out stories after a mid day party. I havn't reread my post until today, absolutely horrrible. I apoligize for my spelling and grammer. besides that though it was pretty cool. I was just wondering if you remembered hearing the story or getting a letter or a call from the guy Sal. I know you must communicate with tons of people but I figured it might be a memorable one.

Hi ZJChaser,

Can't say I remember that particular storey, but we do get hundreds of stories, and Joyce (bless her heart) is very good about our PR.

aww good deal, I kinda figured as much. Well tell joyce it is very much appreciated, I havn't had to deal with her but she, and your products made this amn and myself true believers in spyderco.

Spyderco clipit - never leave home without it - really! I don't even go to the showers in the campgrounds we go to without one (although where to clip it ?!... :D )

I just wish that our ill informed legislators would read that story and realize that a knife is a valuable, necessary and sometimes "life saving" tool that no man or woman should be without. This story just goes to show you that all of the knife laws currently on the books are not only UNCONSTITUTIONAL but are even detrimental. This is proof-positive that by not having the wherewithal and legal RIGHT to have a knife legally it could actually cost a person their life. Here is irrefutable proof of it.
