Interesting story from a few years back

I wonder how many of these bunkers exist and how many have been abandoned over the decades. I bet that was a sight, pretty easy to get turned around down there. If all those people knew about this guys shelter over the years and the SHTF that place would have been swarmed by people who didnt have the sense to prepare and/or were laughing at him while he was planning. Kinda scary, having to fight off and turn away masses of scared pottentially dangerous people. Looks like imo his 18 year plan was comprimised and I would definitly form a backup plan.

I suppose issues like these depend on your perspective. In the 60s when the threat of the nuclear annihilation of North America was real and accute, shelters were socialy acceptable. These days these shelters seem to be viewed as an aberation of societys fringe elements. What bothered me the most about the story was how the various governmental agencies reacted to this guys, admittedly unusual, complex. Ironicly, by being open and honest with everyone, including gov. agencies, he probably did compromise the usefullness of such a facility.

I would love to have at least a shipping container buried under my first house, well stocked with canned food and other supplies.
