I decided sometime ago when Buck announced that they were bringing the production of the Bantam back to the USA to get one. It took awhile because they seemed to use up the Chinese made one first. I finally got one of the smaller ones and it has a label that says:

"U.S. MADE of U.S. and Import Parts"

I'd sure like to know which parts are U.S.A. made. I hope it's the blade.

I have to believe the thermoplastic body is the import. Didnt the back of the package state 420hc steel? I have a 285 medium with USA on the blade and I was so excited I didnt bother to look at the packaging to see that. I love the Bantam line and have loved my imported 286 since I got it even though its chinese made. It just works too well not to love it. I believe it is an older model with 420hc and not the 420j2. It would be my guess if the blade says USA that at least the blade in homegrown. It also has that kind of semi mirror/cloudy looking steel which I have only seen on the USA made.

Mine is the little guy (284 camo) but not the Nano. There's nothing on ther box to indicate the steel type at all but the catalog says 420HC. Hopefully they aren't having the blade stamped USA in China.

I had read they were bringing them back to the states. Good to see the US ones showing up! Need to watch for one also.

Oh, mine were both in clammies-I remember the stockmans had the blade steel listed on the back of the card inside the clam pack.

Oops, more of a pack rat than I thought(no offense Pack Rat:D) I saved the clammie card for just such and occasion. I see what you mean Plum. Interesting that you can see the "Made in" stamp that is covered by the bar code sticker.

actually, after looking at that last photo, you can see the "China" print under the sticker-guess that makes sense-using up old material-may be that the handles are import and using them up until gone and then going to full US production....any takers on that theory?:)

I just got mine today at Dick's and it has Old Glory on the front of the clam pack.
