Recent garage sale find here. Wetterlings SAW logo, no? Welcome any thoughts on dating, model, etc.

Very interested in more information regarding the full metal—aluminum I believe—primary wedge. First I’ve seen.

My dad gave me a wetterlings hatchet in the early 80s when I was just a boy. It was not new then and most of the paint had worn off - so I'm guessing it was from the 60s or 70s? It may have actually had an aluminum wedge originally. I'm trying to remember. I've rehandled it a few times and can't remember, but your picture kind of jogged a memory. pretty sure the original handle was hickory though. actually, thinking back to the way it was splintered under the head when I first replaced the handle in the early 2000's, I'm sure it was hickory.

I've definitely seen axes with aluminum wedges before though. I may even have one now. I might have a newer (90s) collins with an aluminum wedge.

post a pic of the full handle. later replacement handles are often crappier looking and more poorly hung than original.

One of my first posts here was seeking help ID'ing what turned out to be a Wetterlings I found at a thrift shop. Ah Memories.

The one I found had (and still has) an excellent handle, but someone had spray painted the whole thing rattle-can silver, so I had to pull the handle off and clean it and the head off separately. There were some folks here that did not approve of my removal technique.
