From the May/June 2000 issue of "American Handguns". On page 105 there is a small article on the success of the 2000 SHOT Show. The following was stated:

The capper was custom knifemaker Ernest Emerson of Emerson Knives who sold his entire year's production in four hours!

Wow

One years production of:

Custom knives-how can Mr. Emerson do that
when the usual suspects out there that have been waiting over three years for their customs?

Production knives-how can Mr. Emerson do that when the usual suspects, including myself, are on waiting lists for production knives, e.g. Police Utility Knives, some for six months?

because he has no integrity or honor and could care less about you. Although Derek(whom I have absolutely no reason to have a problem with) will try to say otherwise.

John,

Don't take it to hard. Valid points were made. As in, how do you sell a whole years worth of this years knives when customers have been waiting from 1 month to 5 years for their knives.

Dave, you forgot who the magazine got their quote from. Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see!

I think that it's weird that Emerson said that there would be no more lotteries for custom knives and he would focus on filling orders. Then at the New York Show in 1999 he had those CQC67's and full dress CQC6's.

This topic wearies with every retelling, yet it is impossible to get away from if you have a knife on order. I am unaware of any other maker who both refuses to honor his commitments and refuses to explain that refusal.

Derek is an honorable guy caught in the impossible position of defending the indefensible.

I'm beginning to focus not on Emerson, who has demonstrated the value of his word, but the Knifemakers Guild. If they permit their members to act in this manner, what does it say about the values of the Guild?

Bottom line: Deliver the knives you've promised! By the way, is there anyone out there with an order earlier than July 1995?

As an aside, it is well known that Ernie took home with him two of the full dress Viper/6s he was selling at $3,000. So much for the "sold out in 4 hours" reporting.

No problem.

To all,

I understand the lines are blurred between the custom and the production lines. The putting of the Specwar logo on customs didn't help any and the introduction of the Custom/Production knives will further blur those lines.

It's obvious to me that the article was refering to the years worth of products from the production line, not customs.

I don't know how "hands-on" Mr. Emerson is with the production line, but I do agree that the manufacture of customs should be a priority.

Personally, I'm a huge fan of the Commander and will continue to purchase them.

JBravo,

If you are going to cloud the issue with facts, you will be asked to leave this forum.

From Ernie and Derek directly-This was in reference to the Emerson production knife company. NOT Ernie Emerson the custom knifemaker. They are two seperate entities.

Just cancelled my backorder for a Police Utility Knife. I'm getting a 440V custom from a more customer oriented maker. Mr. Emerson's actions don't leave me confident of his ability to fill "Production Knife" orders.

way to go, Bug. Buy from someone with honesty, integrity, and respect for their customers.

The knives indeed were the production, not the hand mades, that were sold at the SHOT show.

The way that is works is this; we go in to the show knowing that we are going to be able to produce X number of knives in the various configurations. We have approximate production schedules for the year. The distributors can come in, look at the projections and purchase what they choose.

Emerson Knives Inc. happens to be in a position wherethe demand for our knives dramatically exceeds the supply. This enabled us to sell our years production in no time flat. This is really what manufacturers attend the SHOT show to do.

These knives were sold to the people who most of your favorite dealers will purchase from. We of course will keep a certain percentage of knives to support our own sales. These were factored in to the numbers that we presented our distributors with.

I am sorry if I had not made clear the fact that Emerson Knives Inc. is an entirely separate entity from Emerson Specwar Knives. I hope that this clears up some of the confusion.

Take care,
Derek
