Glad to get my knifemaker membership. Figured there was lots of posting going on, and I had better make sure I don't end up making a mistake as a basic member. I think my recent thread showing what I was working on pushed the boundary.

Since I still haven't received the updated profile allowing me to PM, I wanted to post this really quick.

I had my introduction thread in shop talk closed because someone asked me about pricing on one of my knives and I (mistakenly) assumed that since I wasn't actually trying to sell the knife I was OK sharing my plans for pricing and what things I was willing to do for people that want something specific since I had paid for the knifemakers membership. When bladsmth closed the thread he commented that it should have been discussed in the exchange. Only problem being that since no one has gotten my account updated to reflect my new membership status, I don't have access to post there.

I understand that I made a mistake (based on the fact that my thread was closed) and have tried to read through the FAQ, except that none of the links worked. Anyone got working links for the site rules?

Bladsmth, while you have the right to do as you see fit, I wish you had just asked me to remove references to pricing so the thread could have stayed open. I would have been happy to take care of it ASAP, as it was my mistake of not knowing how strict that rule was.

Much of the pertinent rules to your situation can be found here:http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=699&a=98

Your thread was closed because you weren't just discussing pricing, your last post was directly selling on the forum and asking interested parties to contact you.
All sales must take place in the exchange area of the site, not in the discussion forums. To avoid further problems, please take time to read the rules and wait for your membership to be updated before posting further.

Understood, thank you for the link, I had just found that thread a couple minutes ago and have a clearer idea of what he didn't like.

If one of the mods would like to remove the price and email address from my post, I would prefer it not just sit out there closed yet still in violation of the rules.

Out of curiosity, if I were looking to get feedback on my knives and my planned pricing, which sub-forum would be the correct one to post in? Is it still the exchange?

Seems a bit heavy handed when a PM and post deletion would suffice, unless the intent is to drive promising new makers away from BF.

I will edit your post.
Feedback and planned pricing could be discussed in the Shop Talk area, as long as you are not making it a sales pitch or selling.
The Exchange is only for Sales.

Registered users do not have PM function. His email is not enabled. He was not issued an infraction warning. He was notified in the thread.
Please don't judge moderator action unless you have a clear understanding of just how hard it is to be one.

I hate to admit it, but I was crushed when I saw that my first thread showing off my first big run was closed. I understand why he did it, and wish it had been handled less heavy handed, but I try to remember something my son learned in pre-school.

"You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit"

The stiff upper lipped man in me says it was my fault for not adhering to the rules.

Thank you Karda.

I would have far rather sent him a PM or email explaining the rules and asking him to edit the posts....but he hasn't enabled them...... I can't help people who haven't allowed me to.

Filling out your profile and enabling email, etc. is the first thing a new members should do, but barely 10% do it.

I thought my email info was my profile, and that I had it set to allow emails from everyone but visitors. How do I change it if my settings are wrong?

Just to be clear, I'm trying to be completely non-combative. I just want to fix what I can, learn, and move on.

Open your "settings" folder and look at "My Account". General Settings and Permission Groups have to be changed and enabled by you. Change them as desired and click "save changes". periodically, go through all the boxes in your settings and profile area to check that you have everything set as you wish.

You are changed over and activated
