Intermediate storage for guns??

I need to store some long-guns for about 12 to 24 months. I've heard of sealable bags being available, as well as moisture absorbants that can be used. My question is, has anyone actually used these products? Any links would be appreciated.

Should have mentioned... I do not have a safe. The location I will be storing them has minimal climate control. They will be well secured, just need to worry about rust.

Brownell's should have them. You can also just use a heavy duty zippered gun case with that vapor releasing paper inside the case with the firearm. Many gun manufacturers have been wrapping their blued guns in that type of paper for years or inserting it inside their gun boxes and I have never seen a factory gun come out of the box with rust even though I know some have been in storage for several years.

Z-Corr storage bags are made in the US and were tested and approved by the US Marine Corps. That was good enough for me to try them. They worked. Fairly cheap. You can get them from Midway USA, but they are one of the few products I've found to be cheaper if you order direct from the company that makes them.

If you were going to store them for years buried in a crate in the ground or something, or if it is a extreme high humidity environment with salt air, I'd definitely pack them in cosmoline.

I'd stay away from the silicone impregnated fabric cases. I've used them in high humidity environments and had some damage. Moisture can and does get through them in some cases and the "fuzz" can get into every crack of a gun. It can ball up in the action and cause malfunctions if you don't get it all cleaned out well; had it happen.

I would just put a heavy coat of Rem Oil on them, and lock them in a hard case and not worry. I think that you could put some iron shavings in a half sealed ziplock bag in the case as well...on the cheap...that would obsorb most of the humidity.

I coated several guns in oil and put them in silicone gun bags for 3 years without any problems and that was in the humid South.

I coat mine with Break Free "collector" oil. Since I can't afford a safe, I hide them behind a secret panel. No problems with rust, but I check in on them every coupla months, and check everything out.

Pelican rifle case (if your tools are rifles), witht he firearms in Silicone impregnated sheaths, and several VCI (vapor corrosion Inhibitor) paks placed into the case. worked for my uncles rifles for over 5 years when he left for Africa. (he left the case in the barn)

I use car wax for field use and Mobil 10w30 for the moving parts
for storage I use this:

Do not forget to strip it clean, I use S-L-X Denatured Alcohol..cheap and does the job.
Nice thing the firearms are ready for use no cleaning of grease which can harden or gather dust bunnies

RIG preservative grease is no longer avaiable though I have a supply but it works very well . I clean the gun thoroughly, apply a light coating of RIG , add some VPI paper and put in a plastic bag or case. The gun is then ready to use no need to remove the RIG.
