I've been reading about some complaints about g10 getting dirty and looked bad after awhile. So I hearby designate this day, Feb 20th, international clean your G10 day.

Here's my personal method--soap and water. Scrub hard. I mean really hard. Scrub until you think surely you've scrubbed enough, and then scrub some more. Scrub.

For those who haven't tried this simple method, you'd be impressed about just how much of a shine it restores.

Someone has mentioned armor all wipes, which I've been meaning to try and haven't gotten around to it. They're all in my other house.

So tell me about some other methods to pretty up G10.

I do the exact same thing you do with yours and they come out very nice. I find that they look a tad dry right afterwards but they look normal again with a little handling and getting your hands natural oil on them.

I was going to get out all my users to do some maintenance like washing and scrubbing the G10, but I though "I'll check the forums first". Funny I found this thread. Well, off I go to scrub my G10.

Edit- I've found that 3M scruber sponges work great on G10!

3M scrubbers oughta do well. After all, the texture on the G-10 is created by bead-blasting the surface, blowing away some of the phenolic matrix and leaving a raised fiber pattern. Using a low-grade abrasive like Scotch-Brite should do the same.

I'd avoid Armor-All, though; it's damn slippery stuff, and negates the idea of a grippy G-10 handle!

I would suggest first running it through the dishwasher. There is something in dishwasher powder that really get gunk off stuff. Maybe the significant other doesn't need to know about this knife cleaning plan?

I don't know about you guys, but I don't plan to put mine in the dishwasher. I like to have an edge on my blades, and I don't particularly want to remove some more metal from the edge by sharpening excessively, just because I wanted the scales to look nicer. Mine are tools.... Tools don't always have to be shiny. Do you put your hammer or your circular saw in the dishwasher? ;) :p

Of course I do! Doesn't everyone? ;)

Always remove the blade from your circular saw before washing in the dishwasher. :)

Well, of course! The carbide is pretty tough on the glassware. Of course, the motor windings take forever to dry, either way...

(GAWD I hope my GF doesn't read this, or I'll be on KP for a month!)

I don't ever cut my lunch with my hammer or circular saw either:D
I keep my knife hygenic and clean because I do use it to open food containers, cut food and other uses that require a clean tool.

Edited to say: I don't put mine in the dishwasher either, but do scrub it clean by hand.
