International Knife Shipments

I obtained most of my current collection from USA, through online purchases. Some sellers do ship overseas but some don't. I have set up a postal mail forwarding account in Miami, FL with a company called USABOX.com to accept any domestic packages on my behalf and forward them to me in Thailand.

I have had 6 shipments of knives which they made through DHL and they all arrived Thailand without any problem. I was about to instruct them to make the 7th shipment when they came back to me with "couriers do not accept this type of items for international deliveries"

I then asked them if they could ship via UPS or USPS and their reply was "We have just called UPS and they only accept utility knifes and kitchen knifes. We are not able to ship knife that could be considered weapons either with the USPS."

BTW the shipment consists of one Buck Odyssey and one Pat Crawford custom neck knife.

I received numerous shipments from AG Russell, Busse Combat, and from folks here at BF. Does this sound like a problem with USABOX.com and their attitude against knives as "weapons"?

Both those models ARE utility blades are they not? They seem reasonable for utility and general use. Call it a buck odyssey utility and a pat crawford utility Knife? Be very generic or at least Nonspecific if possible.

Most of what shipping companies go on "law wise" is how the customs documents are filled out. Your forwarding company may not be well informed on shipping knives internationally. From SOG, we ship to most countries around the world. For customs documents, we label the contects "Stainless Steel Camping Cutlery" instead of "Knives used for Killing." The occasional package we'll receive back is usually because the inspector did not know what they were looking at and what their local laws were.

My suggestion would be to find a knife dealer who will ship to you directly and who often ships internationally. That is likely where you'll have the most luck.

Can anyone please suggest a reputable source/dealer that ships internationally ?

Thanks

I have been ordering (I am in Australia) pretty much all my knives direct from Roger at
http://www.knifeworks.com/ a US company.
I can only think of one glitch in all these years and Roger sorted it out pronto (It was a clerical error or a misunderstanding from one of his staff that resulted in one item being not quite what I wanted, Roger fixed this without a second's hesitation, and had to himself go to a lot of trouble to do so). I actually find this comforting as I know from this he would take care of anything !!!
Hope this helps.

For the record, it is not illegal to ship knives via the post office - any knives. UPS has no ban on shipping weapons except that firearms need to be sent next day air. I would imagine the problem is with the forwarder, who has no business opening your packages, by the way.

been buying from IMHO the best online store, that ships it's knives as camping utensiles, cheap international shipping, fast, no hassle, perfect quality!!!!!

Never had the slightest problem with New Graham Knives. Great prices, great service and they get things to me here in Oz in less than two weeks and that includes the time Oz customs keep it, presumably to try and work out if it's a nuclear weapon or such.

Hi Guys
I've had dozens of knives from the US in the last few years, NGK and TDE have been spot on, Uncle Bill also excellent, did have one kukhri opened to inspect the wooden grip. Alaska Gun also shipped to New Zealand, not2sharp and I have had a few deals too.Quite a few BF members will ship internationally if you tell them how. I just recieved a knife from a USN contact that took about 20 emails to sort, no-one lost their cool and both of us enjoyed the results. Hadn't thought of an ourfit like USABOX, good idea if it works. I have all shipments sent USPS Global Priority, never lost one, always takes 5-7 days. Not sure ho Uncle Bill send his kukhris but they take about 10-12 days, had one foul up there but it was soon sorted.
Thanks
Phil

"We are not able to ship knife that could be considered weapons..."

I always mark international shipments as "collectible cutlery," or "collectible pocket knife." I've never had a problem.
