Okay, so I'm traveling to Italy in October, and was wondering if anyone knows anything about the laws over there....

Would it be safe, in your opinion, to bring something fairly small, say the Spyderco Salt Tasman?

I have traveled all over Europe, and most of the M.East and parts of Africa with a knife in my backpack or duffel bag. When I travel by plane I check the bag in with the knife or knives in it - and I have never had a problem.

At times when my bags have, in front of me, been opened up and investigated they haven't bothered one bit about the knives. The only question I might have gotten would have been "You don't intend to carry this thing through security now are you ? It goes in to the checked luggage you know" or something like that. They have seemed more interested in the fact that I carry two lighters on my person than me having two folders and a fixed blade in my backpack.

So far, so good.

Hah, sorry Cougar Allen, forgot about the knife laws section...

Thanks John. I guess it couldn't hurt to have it in my bag.

You would think in Italy the land of pasta and switchblades that you could carry a knife with ease, but it seems the answer to this has been only a small folder is allowed...there have been other post here....
