I need some help. I have aol and it has been giving me problems, dropping me off, having to constantly re-log onto bladeforums etc. Which internet provider is good, safe and generally a good cost value?

Forgot to add that I am in the dark ages...I have dial up, so I gues my question is two fold what is a good hi-speed provider?

Do you have cable where you live? That would likely be your best option.

Also, you can call your phone company. Most offer high speed Internet now.

You usually have the option of buying your own modem or renting their modem.

There is no comparison between dial up and broadband. Broadband makes the Internet what it should be. Depending on what area that you live in, find the carriers in that area and then try Google searching for user opinions on those carriers.

I was on dial-up for two thirds of forever. I finally ditched it for DSL after I got my laptop. The difference is HUGE. Massive.

I'd check with the local phone company and see if they can set you up. (I went with AT&T. Good internet, lousy customer service.) If you don't want to keep your landline (home phone service,) chances are they can set you up on what's called a dry loop. You wouldn't have phone service, but your DSL would run through your phone line. I disremember how it works exactly. (this is what I did. the only people who called the home phone were bill collectors, solicitors, poll takers, etc. I use my cell exclusively when I need a phone. One less bill.) Or you can keep the home phone. Whatever works for you. Neat thing is, you'll be able to get calls while you're online.

Broadband like Cox is best, followede by DSL, followed by telephone modem. Of dial-up, Earthlink treated me well. That was a long time ago.

Hi-Speed internet availablity is really dependent on where you live.

It can be quite costly (especially compared to dial-up).

Checkout the FreedomList Forum on BroadBand -
couple of threads that may be of interest -

at&t starts $10 dsl in 22 states

$14.99 verizon dsl plus one free month

These prices are about as cheap as dial-up, and as others have said the difference is very noticable.

I have the $10/month DSL - although 768K/128K sounds "slow" in comparison to the 1.5-3Mbs speeds - it is more than fast enough for surfing - often the latency or propergation delay to the remote server is the main cause of any sluggishness - and that's the same for all line speeds - the main difference is really in download speeds. For example an acid-test like watching videos on-line like YouTube works fine with 768/128K.

Hope this helps.

Like they said, you'll haveta do some searching to find whats available in your area, but getting rid of Aohell for almost any other browser/ Isp will be of benefit to ya. Their browser and service are noted for the things you've experienced. It is well worth the money to get the best connection you can afford, and will cause you to swear alot less.
I just use plain ol' Internet explorer with Time warner high speed. so far i only get logged off when something goes wacky with BF's server or if something happens to the cable line along the way somewhere.
