Interstitial app-install ads are not good

Just saw this:
http://techcrunch.com/2015/09/01/death-to-app-install-interstitials/

Basically, Google is going to start down-ranking sites that pop-up an interstitial ad that suggests installing a mobile app instead of allowing the user to browse the site directly. Personally, I'm in favor of this move. I have stopped trying to browse BF on mobile because of that tapatalk (or whatever) interstitial.

You can debate the reasons for this (and everyone is) but unless the backlash is so strong that Google changes its policy it will happen in Nov. Personally, I think the only people who will complain are the app vendors. For myself, I already have all the apps I want. I'm removing them faster than installing them these days.

I wouldnt touch Tapatalk if they paid me. Tried 3 times on 3 different platforms. Havent gotten it to work yet. And we see regular problems with it here on BFC.

I use Tapatalk for a couple of sites and would be hopelessly lost without it. Especially for buying--you get almost instant notification of a sale post.

I use the iPhone version. And I don't see many and mostly NO ads. Maybe BF and USN which have paid membership turn the ads off for paying members.

The recent updates over the past few months have greatly improved the app. It's not as intuitive as I wish it were. There is a learning curve.

Didn't know you could use it for purchasing. Maybe I'll take a look. Frankly, my interest in mobile apps is to have ones that are useful. The useless ones, the duplicates, the ones that are better served by a web page -- those I want to delete (or not install) because every installed app requires updates or other form of overhead. I don't mind learning how to use something that's useful, but I get annoyed by the overhead of unused or not-useful apps.

I may be somewhat of an extreme case. I have two android phones, two android tablets, and an iPad that I currently use. I bought the first iPhone on the day it was released and have been seriously into mobile devices since. As you can imagine, each app requires updating on each device, so that's a lot of overhead. (And I can't use auto-update because of bandwidth issues.)

If you are looking for a particular knife that is popular you need to know when it gets listed. Some sales go in a matter of a few seconds. So how does that work?

You can set notifications in Tapatalk to sub forums so as soon as a sale message is posted...you get notified. Yeah...I know, it's obsessive, but one way you can score popular knives.

There are no ads for paying members, that is one of the benefits of having a subscription.
