Back in February, JParanee suggested that the CKCA conduct interviews with knifemakers....he specifically had a lot of interest in the technical details, including testing, and "volunteered" me to the Board, which I was fine with.

We came up with a set group of questions to be used each time that a maker is interviewed, and plan to make it a monthly feature on the CKCA website, but will probably mix it up after a while with high profile collectors, dealers.....so we can provide a good picture of the overall community for the reader.

Because I was going to Santa Barbara, S.R. Johnson who is a greatly renowned maker, and also a CKCA Member with a table at the show, was tapped as the first "subject":D

Luckily, I also got to try out my questions on Harvey Dean, so the second interview is in the can for June. I'm hoping that one of my fellow CKCA members will do one or two at Blade, and I plan on doing a couple interviews at Josh Smith's Show and Hammerin.

Here is the link, comments here or on the CKCA website for members is certainly welcome:

Would like to publicly thank S.R. Johnson for his good nature, patience and genuine interest in making this interview the best that it could be.

Best Regards,

Great interview. Thanks. He put my name on his list a few years ago. I hope to get something one day...

Good interview STeven. The questions are thorough in providing an insight into the persona of the knifemaker.

From everything I have ever read or heard about SRJ he is a class individual, not to mention one of the best knifemakers.

Steve Johnson is pretty much my favorite knifemaker. The video he put out with center cross on making the subhilt fighter is hands down the best knifemaking instructional video ever made. Alot of the things I know, and the techniques I am now using as a new knifemaker are because of him.

Great interview with a great guy!

Great job on the interview, STeven - and kudos to JP for the concept.

Steven it is easy to suggest something but alot harder to put it together. This you have done as all things you do. Very well. Obviously I suggested the best man for the job.. Great format and job well done.

I really enjoyed the interview. Good questions and interesting/informitive answers.
A big thanks to Joe P, Bob Starkey, Steven and Steve.

Our CKCA members have stepped up all year making team efforts to bring the community worthwhile projects.
