Good morning fellow woods walkers! I recently had a chance to do a short interview with Ray Laconico. We talk about a bit about knives, the outdoors, and you guys! I don't think we, as W&SS readers/contributors, realize the influence that we can wield over knife designs and trends.

Ray has some really insightful answers and he finally owned up to being a cyborg! I knew it.

You can read the interview at my blog: http://jerkingthetrigger.wordpress.com/2010/03/24/the-regular-guy-sessions-knifemaker-ray-laconico/

My hope is to eventually talk to more knife makers (and people from shooting, survival, and other industries as well) so that you guys get to know the people behind the screen names.

Thanks a bunch as well! More power to your efforts!

As a Filipino as well, I'm always wishing for a kabayan to make it abroad. Really good to hear Ray L. is making a name for himself in this field.

Good stuff Matt and Ray. It's always interesting hearing how a maker got started in knives and their views on design etc. And the makers who also enjoy the outdoors seem to make the knives that really appeal to me, they get what a woods blade should be.

Excellent Review.... The Man Builds a Flawless Knife, I am hoping to get a larger Blade to match my HWK one day !
Thanks for the link

Great stuff, guys. I always enjoy learning about our resident makers. I look forward to future interviews!

All the best,

- Mike

I like the part where he confesses to being a cyborg! :p Great stuff... Ray is a class act and a great knife maker.

Great interview and I wish Ray all the best as he diversifies into folders !

That's cooool Matt! Thanks for the interview. I know I've been pretty absent from these forums lately but I'll try to drop in more often. I just have so many things going on in my knifemaking and trying to be a better knifemaker.

Cool idea! I enjoyed reading that.

Ray really does have a beautiful sense of style that shows in his knives. It's interesting to me how his knives are somehow instantly recognizeable even though the designs aren't all the same.

I really enjoy the HWK Ray made for me last year. It's a beautiful tool and I'm looking forward to using it more once summer arrives.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. People are really responding well to the interview. I think that consumers really do want to 1) support small businesses and 2)know the person behind the product. I really hope to continue to bring you these type of interviews!

PB Wilson, that HWK might just be the finest looking HWK I have ever seen!

great review/interview. very fond of Rays knives - have aquired quite a few over the last couple of years thanks to bladeforums. Rays a great person to deal with - always very prompt and polite. I am always on the lookout for his knives in the sale forums.

Great read!

It's so interesting to read and/or hear what makes people do what they do and why.

Thank you for taking the time and sharing.
