Would you say a scary looking knife is a plus or a minus?

IMHO, if the bad guy says "screw you" and decides to hang around, well you're kinda stuck. Then afterwards, you got the court to worry about and a jury who will be judging you and your weapon...
 
You can take this one to the tactical forums, too, but let me make a suggestion -- do some reading there first. If you find you're not satisfied with the information you get from reading the hundreds of posts that have already been written on the subject, by all means ask the question again....
