Intimidation Factor

I just got a Timberline Discovery Assisted Opening Tanto today, and it is of good quality. It is manufactured in Taiwan, but hell, so is CRKT...
No blade play whatsoever. It is a medium sized folder with a lanyard hole and no possibility of moving the clip. There are adjustable screws. The blade came razor sharp and is bead blasted. I got one with a black coated blade the other week, so I decided to have one of each kind. The price tag makes it affordable for almost everyone <$100.
It is equipped with assisted opening, so it snaps open quite fast. There is a sliding button for disengaging the locked blade.

I think folders like these are perfect to scare people with. I opened it in front of my kitten, and she immediately went under the bed. Some intimidation factor huh! :D

try this with a combat-proven-bobcat and maybe you will end under the bed

IMHO intimidation will always depend on the situation and person,
for example:
i am such a nice and harmlessly person i could open my Sifu near the face of a unknown LEO and ask him/her how he/she likes it without intimidation to him/her.
(Never tried it but i`m very sure, - ähh, should i make the test??)

On the other side if you are looking like your avatar,
i would be VERY intimidated as soon you pull out a thumbtack

OH i nearly forgot one:
DONT TRY TO SCARE PEOPLE WITH A KNIFE - THEY MAY HAVE A GUN

If you have not seen it, rent Raiders of the Lost Ark.

It contains the ultimate lesson on intimidation with a blade.

intimidation factor
give me a break I can intimidate my kitten with a q tip. And any one stupid enough to try and scare people with a knife should be taken out of the Gene Pool.

I take it that your comment about scaring people with a knife was an attempt at humor. I sure hope so, otherwise it is in very poor taste.

By the way, don't quit your day job.:p

Oh yes, this post was for entertainment purposes only, make no mistake about that. :D

The cat was scared by the clicking sound when the blade was released.
She is very easily scared, but has returned to normal since... :)

Be assured that whenever I post something like that, it is always to be taken as humor, perhaps with me being the only one laughing...

If I will ever try this with a combat-proven-bobcat, I will dress in full body armour first!

I will perhaps unmask myself in the future.

Six years ago, with my Westie dog (14 weeks, then) in the puppy school. The teacher wanted to demonstrate how dogs (all puppies of approx the same age) do react to a gunshot.
So we made a circle (~20 feet dia) around the teacher, the puppies "sitting", but unleashed.
~1/3 ran away totally afraid (not so good dogs)
~1/3 hid behind their masters (nice dogs)
~1/3 did not react (good dogs)
My dog went straight to the teacher to investigate what made that darned noise: it's a Westie, he just ignores what intimidation might be.
Happy sharpening :)

Maybe it's because I have one, but _I_ saw the humor in your post.

On the flip side though, that "snap" is part of why I it isn't in my carry rotation, and never goes to work with me. I expect it WOULD scare people -- unintentionally, as you mentioned.

Neat knife though. I keep thinking I should give it to my dad (he can't seem to figure out liner-locks, but the locking bar should be OK). Haven't quite wanted to part with it yet though.

intimadation w/a knife, imho aint real smart - lotsa people carry guns, many legally, and if ya open (or pull) the knife, ya have just threatened the individual, and when he pulls out his glock 31 (or SIG,etc) you will have commited a cardinal error - bringing a knife to a gunfight - the individual, if he wants , can kill you and then walk, no charges - oh he'll have to make a statement, etc, but in TEXAS thats gonna be about it - for that reason, i dont worry about intimidation, hell i carry a glock 27 (32,33,23) and the blade is striictly a utility item, for last ditch defense, dont get me wrong i love em as much(knives) as anyone, but dont try that in texas please, for your own good, my plan would be to close w/the adversery, and stick him QUICK, if i'm down to a knife, the glock, kel tech .32, etc hasnt worked, its a last ditch effort, and i will not be interested in intimadation at that point...

Intimidation is an irate father weilding a meat cleaver who thinks you have been messing around with his 16 year old daughter.

BTW that is a fine dog you have there Ted, would love to meet him or perhaps a photo? I had a pit bull/terrier, smartest dog youd ever imagine, while in the Marines who would do the same thing. Total aplomb, with a "look" at the offending gun discharger as if to say "So what, you think your cool or what?"
True dog story: when he was 4 months old, some idiots tried to scare him buy lighting matches and lighters and pushing the fire at the little puppy. Skipper (his name) backs up two steps, looked at the fire, then shot forward to bite a lighter and match out of two guys hands. He then shook his head a few time, spat the lighter and match out, then sat back on his haunches and gave those guys a look that said "So you want to play that game again? What do you wanna bet I take a couple fingers too the next time?", accompanied by a light, low growl in his throat. Being good Marines, they respected his attitude and Skipper became the barracks mascot from then on.
Loved that dog.
