Anybody else that used to be into big knives that isn't using or carrying them very much anymore ?

I stlll have some big ZT's that don't get used/carried much, I sold the first Dalibor Regulus ever made, (I didn't know I had the first 1 until Dalibor posted

on my Regulus fs thread), I traded/sold 2 of Peter r's big knives, Millies don't get much use either.

Just not into big knives the way I used to a couple 3 years ago. Don't get me wrong, I still like/use large knives just not some of the Big knives

I used to have.

Anyone else who used to carry big knives that's not carrying them as much or very seldom...............

Pretty much, yes. The guys on the outdoor forums slowly clued me in to this. My fixed blades are now 3-6 inches for the most part, and my folders average around four. I still have a few machetes, Parangs, that type of thing. But I am moving toward an axe\hatchet and smaller blade mind set. At this point my ESEE Izulas seem to be an ideal cross between a pocket EDC and outdoor tool. They are unique that way, for me anyway.

I go through phases. A few years back I was very much into smaller EDC's like the Benchmade 707 Sequel , BM-HD Mini Hardtail , Spyderco Native5 etc. Now I'm into slightly larger knives that I like to carry such as the Manix2 , BM 710 , ZT0550.

I like small profile folders.

while I liked the action and feel of ZT knives I will never carry one.

3in blade is about as large of a blade as I go, anything large just feels impractical to me for the tasks I do. I tend to stick to 2.5-3in. I have a kershaw tremor and kershaw black horse II which are both 3.75in and are dedicated work knives and are meant to be used and abused, they get the worse jobs I have to do, otherwise they sit around collecting dust. They two are my work knives because they provide a full secure grip even while I am wearing gloves unlike my EDC knives.

The Tremor was bought as an EDC but I bought it online and didn't realize how big such a knife is in person, that was when I learned how impractical such knives are for EDC use. Too much weight, takes up too much pocket space, and people find to be intimidating if you have to use it in public.

I'm afraid I'm not there just yet. I still EDC my BK9 because of how handy it is as the most unforeseen times. But I also carry the BK14, as well as an SAK for everything else. Once cold weather firmly settles in and I no longer believe I'll need to hack my way through overgrown bushes for doing outside work, I plan on swapping out the BK9 and BK14 for my new BK17, since it'll ride better under the winter coat.

I have lots of knives with 9 inch and better blades; I just can't convince myself to use them. For me a 6 inch blade seems to be a big knife. Most of the time I pack a fixed blade with a 3 to 3 1/2 inch blade and I seem to manage just fine. I like to look at the big knives and I will probably always have some but to me they seem kind of pointless.

I would like to use some of my big blades but I just don't know where :) I live in the city and big knives are illegal so at this point the biggest knife I'm using is CS Recon1 4" blade and will be replacing it with the 3 1/2" HTM GH so as much as I would like to use big blade there is just no opportunity for me here :(

I like em big...just like my women. ;)

A 6" fixed blade just seems puny these days.
I like big folders.
I like huge fixed blades.

Small works okay, but I just don't dig them the same way.

Except for that blue G-10 handled Lava; that thing rocks. :)

My preference in blade length has not changed for fixed blades, 4" is still my favourite, I stay within the 3.5 to 5 inches range.

With folders, I've gone through different phases. I used to really like smallish knives, 3" was pretty much my limit. But for the past couple of years I've been leaning more and more towards larger knives, 3.5" is probably the shortest blade length I use, except on very particular situations.

Finding more and more that my sweet-spot is around 3", unless it's particularly narrow blade, from spine to edge.

My most common edc folding blade length these days is 3-3.5 inches. A few years ago it was 3.5-4.0 inches. Maybe in a few years I ll be down to 2.5- 3.0 inch blades as my preference , but not yet.

My edcs are

for picnicking
& a 7' max fixed, horizontally at back of belt, for savage dog defence.

I live in California in the Bay Area where there aren't a lot of knife people so I have tried to stick to smaller knives if only to no draw attention to myself. Usually the biggest I'll EDC is my Caly 3.5 but this month going with a Pink Lum in honor of my aunt, bless her soul. Most of my EDCs are around 3 inches or smaller, I've got a Mini-Grip, Native5, Yo2, Captain, and Centofante4 as my big knife rotation and switch out with a Ladybug, Jester, CoPilot, and MeerKat as my keychain knife. Got no use for a bigger knife so my Military's have been sitting around waiting for a hike or trip to a more rural area where they can shine. I don't think I've yet got into the big knife phase yet, but I've been looking at a lot. I'd say I'm at the opposite point as you, where I usually bought smaller knvies before and now I'm gravitating to bigger knives. My last few purchases have been a two Spyderco Military and a Massad Ayoob. I can't wait to put them through the paces :D
