Took a few hours this morning and headed out into the woods yet again. Took along my JK Walnut Kephart, Glock 22, smaller thermos of black coffee, & some bannock.

Something decided to have lunch before I did.

Wonder if it was this guy. Ton of these tracks all over.

Out in the middle of nowhere I find this carved in a tree. This was probably about 4 miles in. "M" loved "R" at some point. Wonder if they're still around and together?

Decided to stop for a break and warm up a bit, cook some lunch.

Woodpeckers were out and about today. Scared one away from this area.

I`m going to play moderator here, and say this is way too "woodsey" to be here, it should be in W&SS! Just kidding, I enjoy seeing my knives in use. (but really, this would be good in W&SS, I don`t think I`ve ever seen anyone cooking bannock there)

I thought about it but I wanted to get a shot of one of your babies in use.
I like pics of your knives ;)

Bannock is great. I made up some hardtack to take last week. Had to soak it in some coffee out there though. Teeth aren't what they use to be :)

Great pics. I wish I could get out for a snow hike now and then. I'm usually baking in the sun, and I burn easily!

It is the good review, good photos.
The trace is not so fresh.
As though itself has visited there

For Bannock that I take with me I usually use this.
1 cup whole wheat flour
1 tsp baking powder
Dash of salt
3 tbl butter (melted)
splash of milk

mix it up in a bowl until it comes out not tacky. I usually add a little more wheat flour until it doesn't stick to my hands.
Then I toss it into a ziplock bag and set in the fridge over night or until I head out.
One word of caution. One cup makes more than you would think. Actually enough for two people.
:)

I wish we could get out in the woods. The snow is at least 24 inches deep on the level and five feet or so any where that it can drift.

Hi mrbear -

Cool - thanks for the pics!

The bannock might be good with some other flavor thrown in - spice or whatever, raisins?

Is that a coyote track, or something larger? I see similar tracks around my house when the neighbors dog runs loose lol ...

Thanks for the pictures - the Kephart looks great -

I'll post pics of the Kephart over in w&ss - but I am not much of a woodsman - perhaps it is time I did a little more since I live in the sticks anyway!

thanks again for the cool post - it's nice to take an occasional break from my work and check in to Stomper's forum here.

best regards -

Thanks bud, Im gonna try this out on my next trip.

Great pics buddy !

I'll have to give that Bannock a try, I've been meaning to try some ever since watching Ray Mears make some years ago on TV.

Ps. That Kephart looks great and very at home out there !

This is Ray making some again in one of his newer episodes......

I am going to try that recipe as well.

Thanks for posting the pictures! I was going to try to get some woodstime in this week, but we are having a stupid blizzard.
Stupid weather.
