Intrepid 7" good TSHTF knife?

This actually started out as a sale thread, but I wanted to get some advice from the Buck guys first.

I have a CRK Aviator for field use, carry while archery hunting, etc. I have a Katz Lion Cub as a field carry or survial knife if needed. What I want now is a 7" knife that goes with TSHTF bag. You know, if I were able to grab only one knife to use as a survival tool and self defense. (Keep in mind that my Ritter RSK would always be with me regardless.) The question is, is the Intrepid 7" that knife?

I just bought one to see what it was like and it's very impressive. I picked up a Seal SOG 2000 as well. And I have a Ranger RD7 on the way, though that's mainly a camp knife for me. Am I on the right track? I'll keep the RD7 for camp no matter what, but I really only want to keep one 7" TSHTF knife...I know. The knife would be left to sit, until it ws needed so rust resistant would be mandatory. And I'm open to other knives as well.

The Intrepid was designed by Kit Carson as a survival/ dive knife.

Its a very solid knife, can be used for prying, digging, chopping etc.

It will handle field survival chores easily as well as breaching/ egress situations.

Although we discontinued them as a catalog item, we still build them on requst for Military/ LE organizations who issue them to their tactical teams as a breaching/ access tool.

The sheath is very versatile, rigid Kydex. It can be lashed anywhere with 550 cord or hung on a belt.

Its a great blade for your intended use.

can you tell me the reason it is not double-edged? Only the tanto tip has a double edge. Also, is the top false edge functional? It's not very sharp, but feels like it could cut some materials.

For a hard use knife you need to have a thick unsharpened spine for strength.

There is a section that is edged on the spine for chopping.

The tanto edge is sharp but it has a thick edge for strength.

It does. But the tanto tip is double-edged, the straight edge of the knife and the serrated portion are only single edge. Is that intentional, or did someone reshaped that straight edge portion of this knife?

Sorry I didn't understand your question the first time. You are reffering to the type of grind I believe. All of the ones I have seen come from the factory have an edge ground on both sides. The serrations will be cut on only one side. It sounds like you are ferreing to a chisel grind on your knife and I am not sure if we ever did them that way. It may be a customer mod but I am not sure.

Any problem with a professional grinding the other side? I wouldn't think so.

Joe would have to answer you in regards to warranty, but as far as function, not if done properly. Not sure why you would want a chisel ground edge for a field knife, but to each his own.

I recommend you send it in to Buck and have the factory check it out and fix it for you.

Not to drag this out, but the back of the straight edge looks the same as the back of the serrated edge. I can' imagine it's ever been reground. I wrote the guy who sold it and he swears it's new and the he owns another that's identical to it.

I know it's an old thread but I can verify my Intrepid also has only one side of the cutting edge ground for BOTH the flat edge and the Serations while the tanto tip is ground on both sides of the blade.
