Intrepid Handle?

I finally got around to getting myself an Intrepid...NICE KNIFE!

I took the handle off just to see what made it tick, and I was wondering just how durable is the handle? I see that it is not solid as I first thought but has more of skeltonized look to it.

Thanks all for the info! In the future I was thinking of making one of maybe a maple or some sort...

I got the large/tanto point....Is there a difference between them? I tried to wrap it with paracord and that looks nice, but I would have to make it a little thicker.

My experience with the Buck handle has been good. I have replaced both of them with Red G-10 for water rescue work though. Also remember to take the handles off and clean under them for rust.
