I hope you get a lot cause I am interested as well.

The tanto was an add on to Kit's original design. He originally came up with the chisel point. We added the tanto as well as a smaller version model 187.

Just one big hunk of steel, not many weak points...

I would love to hear any thoughts on the sheath as well??

Well I loved the 189 Tanto when It first came out, but I kept putting off buying one until last month...And I only wish I'd bought it long ago!

I like the sheath that came with it, but would also like a more all kydex/concelex type, such as the 187. Maybe use the same type of setup as the 189 only make it possible to slide it out of the nylon outer sheath and use a tec-lock(sp?) type of option.

I bought my 189 Tanto to use, so last weekend I took a walk in the woods just to test it out...I chopped, hacked and stabbed with it for an hour, and it still looks like I just took it from the box, really held up great!

The handle is ok, but I am planing on replacing it with a maple or some such in the near future...I'll post a pic when I do.

I posted my answer to your question when you asked it on another forum. It might have been discussion forum, I'm not sure. Unfortunately, I can't cut and paste with this POS computer I am currently using. IF you can find it and cut and paste it for me in here I would appreciate it. Suffice to say that it is probably the toughest Buck knife, Buck has ever made.

Cobalt, Is this the one...]

this knife is definitely a sharpened pry bar. It is very thick and solid with a saber
style grind. The steel used(420HC) is much better than the standard 420 or 425 Buck
uses, being closer in spec to 440A. It is not a super duper edge holder, but it has
toughness to make up for it. Decent steel, great design, by Kit Carson, and one heck of
a knife for the discounted prices on the internet.

Needless to say, I think it's a great field knife.

Kdarmy, no it's not, but thanks. He asked this question in two other places and like a goofball I followed and answered. Won't be doing that again.
