Hi forum.

As a fellow knife-nut, I reckon it was just a matter of time before I had to join in on the fun over here as well:)

I have been very much into straight razors for a few years now, and has built a decent collection of both vintage production, new production and new custom made razors.
That kinda led me into kitchen knifes after a while, and now, here I am in the Chris Reeve sub-forum..

Honing has turned in to my favorite pass-time these last few years, so my stone collection has surpassed ridiculous some time ago;)

Anyways, glad to be here, and to get things back to topic in this sub-forum, here's a couple shots of my Reeve knives.
I just received the Tanto today, the Sebenza arrived last week.

Congrats!

How are you liking the tanto style?

Thank you:)

As I only received it today, I'm not able to say all that much about it yet.
First impressions are good though, it looks like it will be a very useful tool for me, both at work and around the house.
As I get to use it more, I will update on my findings!

Welcome to the crew. You can't go wrong with crk.

Welcome!
You have one of my most favorite CRK's in your collection, the tanto Umnum, it's been my edc for almost three years and has proven to be an outstanding knife. I have no doubt that yours will serve you well should you decide to use it.

Oh yes, it will see frequent and, at times, hard work.
To me it is just a tool, albeit a rather good looking and well made one:)

HwangJino, AKWILD and bradtown, thanks for the welcome.
I can totally see this place being a favored hang-out of mine:)

I couldn't agree more, I treat my Tanto Umnum like it cost me $140, not $410.
It has seen some rather tough tasks through the years and shrugged them all away with little effort. The S30V on mine takes a very keen edge and holds it for quite a while.
What else can I say beside its just an awesome knife.

I hope that you get the same enjoyment from using that tanto as I do from mine.

Awesome knives, but did you engrave your initials into the handle scales?

I was wondering the same, although it looks like some kind of paint or ink to me...?

I've never been a fan of American style tantos, but the 'zaan version just looks sooo sweet. The grind looks perfect on that knife.

Congrats!

No, it is a silverish permanent marker I use on all my tools.
I do plan on getting the scales perma-marked though, but I will leave that to a machinist buddy of mine!

Welcome to the CRK forum.
I see you have a couple of more medium/heavy duty style knives, yet should you ever want to try a more gentleman's style knife I highly recommend the CRK Mnandi.

Yeah, I need to look into that Mnandi.
A beutiful Gentleman's folder indeed.

One of the many reasons I ended up with Chris Reeve knives are the fact that they make 'em for lefties.
While fully ambidextrous by now, like many lefties I guess, I want my knives built for my preferred hand.
So much so that I will not buy from makers who disregard the brighter parts of our human race;)

I'm not surprised you chimed in about the Mnandi  but I do agree, the Mnandi is the perfect gentleman's folder.

Welcome! I want to see your stone collection! I find sharpening a relaxing activity. I've been using an Edge Pro, but want to get into freehand at some point. What are your favorite bench stones?

I'll see if I have a pic of them all together. If I remember correctly I posted on over at one of the straight razor forums a while back.

As to what my favs are, that is depending on a number of things like steel, hardness and what I'm aiming for in a particular hone job.

For many stainless knives, I tend to prefer the Shapton pros and Choseras from Naniwa.
Suehiro Gokumyo and Debados are good too, when a high grit edge is in order.
I also enjoy using Japanese naturals in my sharpening sessions.
Red or green Aoto's and Hakka Renge is decent stuff.

As a straight razor honer, I kinda cringe a bit whenever I see knives touted as razor-sharp, but with a good Nakayama, a Shapton 30K or a Suehiro Gokumyo 20K they can get up there:)
Not that I'd ever want a straight razor edge on my knives, they would be way too fragile for practical use.

I used a Edge-pro system for a few years myself, I think it is good stuff, especially with the Chosera stones.
I still use it for honing some of my work knives, and most of my colleagues.
