Hey guys names Pete. Been lurking around here trolling through the multitude of awesome pictures, advice, and all around good time and im finally getting the gusto to say whats up and ask a question.

I think time and finances are permitting me to pull the trigger on my 1st Busse. I have been a HUGE fan for quite some time as a few friends of mine have serveral and i always drool over when i can. Now after looking at the site I see something that will fit my bill perfectly the new Sar6. My noob question to you guys is this.

Can you get the handle material changed to your liking or what you see is what you get?

Just asking because i am a fan of all the beautiful colors and all but past experience dictates i would like to get a hunters orange handle. Anyhow thanks again guys for the assist here and looking forward to talking more to the group.

Pete

hello and welcome.

yes and no.

the unofficial skinny is:

at first, from Busse direct or the Company Store, you get what you get. they generally offer a few options, and pretty much never hunter/blaze orange, and that's that.

now, at some point later, usually a few months after a given knife is released and no longer available direct, you can get Garth at the Busse Custom Shop to swap them for pretty much anything else.

for reasons that aren't exactly clear, but are likely due to them not wanting to complicate each release with an infinite number of 'customizations', you more or less can't get a new release with custom scales - thus having to wait a while.

that said, hunter/blaze orange in particular is super unusual for Busse direct. only one knife that I know of was ever offered that way, the OJ Warden, a few years ago. Busse seems to favor 'Pumpkin' which is Orange and Black G10 that's machined. As a matter of fact, other than the OJ Wardens I've only ever seen one other Busse knife in hunter/blaze orange, and that one (an SFNO) was rehandled by someone else (Ban, IIRC).

now, you can always have someone else (Ban, NorCalBlackTail, others who customize knives from time to time) to do such a swap for you, but that's between you and them and their willingness and availability.

so, get a SAR6 in whatever you like from the current options, and at some point subsequently you can have them swapped for hunter/blaze orange, but getting Busse to do that for you will be the longest option...

lots of people, me included, would like to see more Busse knives offered in Blaze Orange from the get-go, but it's unlikely.

best of luck.

The SAR6 was offered in "pumpkin" G-10, which is hunter orange layered with black, but the Store has sold out of this combo. It's not exactly what you are looking for, but perhaps the next best thing. Surely a few of these will hit the Exchange...eventually. :)

Welcome to the Forum!

EDIT: I should have read DowntownDM's reply a bit more closely! :o ...He already mentioned the pumpkin G-10. :)

here's the blaze orange SFNO (recently for sale as a matter of fact):

here's a BWM with Pumpkin handles:

and amongst all of these Game Wardens (I think every combination ever offered) is an OJ Warden:

and here's a Pumpkin SAR6 (as close as you'll get now if you buy one from the Exchange):

Well thats kinda disappointing but ill get over it guess ill have to buy whatever strikes my fancy now and then swap later if it really hits me.

those are some awesome pictures by the way it amazes me how ppl always get such clarity when shooting something shiny. Besides my 35mm i could never get that.

Again thanks sooooooooo excited to be joining the Busse club only thing is this damn storm in Jersey is stopping me from the bank so most likely wont order till Thursday.

Again ty all for the the assist and clearifying this issue for me.

Hope ya don't get much more snow. You guys in NJ have already seen your fair share of that white sh...err, stuff this winter! I'm in the far western 'burbs of Philly and it's already looking like it's about done snowing here. Looks like only 3-4 inches so far.

wow thats awesome news ya right now im at work (working VERY hard) in hamilton right outside trenton and its like a blizzard outside still. Poor visability and looks like 5 inches atm.

I think solid orange scales should be offered more often, no one wants to lose an expensive knife.

I got lucky on my pumpkin SAR 6 (the pic above) as it was mostly Orange with no black on the outer layer. It's plenty bright and highly visible out in the woods and it's all ready to go! You might check the exchange for one as it will go quick, and it isn't mine. ;)

LOL ya just something about the "pumpkin" that does appeal to me. Its weird for me i guess but that blaze on Down's SFNO when your gutting a deer in the twilight hours and go ohhhh s*** where did i put my knife. It comes in handy and that handle you can see a mile away.
