Hello everyone,
New here and I just received my very first couple of "proper" knives.
I bought a Kershaw Cryo for my nephew this Christmas and as I was placing the knife in my Amazon shopping cart I said "what the hell..." and I upped the count to 2 - one for him and a matching one for me. Little did I know though that my wife also bought me a Buck/Tops 680 Neck Knife.

Already I have discovered that I really enjoy these knives and have already placed an order for an upgrade to the Cryo in the form of a ZT0560. And with the new knife on the way I decided that I would have fun with modding my Cryo.

Please take note that this is my very first time modding so be nice :)

Mods Done:
-Polished Grind Face and Spine
-Polished Lock Bar Cut Out
-Polished All Edges
-Stripped and Heat Colored Lock Bar Stabilizer Washer
-Ground Blade to form Finger Choil

Thanks everyone.
I ground out the choil as a solution to the thumb stud danger. Whenever I would use the thumbstuds to flip out the knife I would always leave a smudge mark on the blade as my thumb would rub on the face of the blade as it was flipping out. At least now if I ever decide to use the thumb studs my thumb will not be rubbing up against the sharp edge of the knife.

But now that the choil is there, I find it to be very comfortable and I can see it's potential usefullness in fine carving and control of the knife.

Nice work - looks great. I have one and have never cared for the dull gray color of it. The polished blade is sweet.

Can you explain how and the grit progression you used to polish the blade? Also what tool did you use to make the finger choil? O and great work!!

No sanding was involved.
All I used for polishing was a dremel w/ small polishing wheel with black polishing compound followed by white compound.
The polish isn't perfect though as the finish brings out the factory machine marks. I think it looks fine as is but I might redo it with some fine sand paper.

The choil was ground out using the same dremel tool with a small grinding wheel.
It was actually pretty simple to do - and clean to boot!
Just make sure you clamp the blade in a vice and keep the dremel perpendicular to the blade.

Thanks for explaining how you polished it. Looks great although I wouldn't want the loss of the blade edge for the choil myself but if it works for you, then excellent.

I second that you will love the 560.

Updated:
Polished entire blade using 1500 grit sandpaper followed by 2000 grit and white polishing rouge:

I was experimenting with a vinegar soak on the blade and after a couple of hours of soaking the print started to come off the blade! So, i went ahead and completely sanded all of it off.

Oh,... and I got my 0560 in :D:D:D
