Hello all, this is my first post and wanted to introduce myself as well as say thanks and ask a question regarding sharpening of knives. I live in Arizona and am an avid hunter, I do enjoy knives and have a few but dont really know a lot about them. I recently lost my hunting knife it was a Cold Steel master hunter which seemed to be a pretty good knife but I wasnt always pleased with the edge I was able to put on it. Now I recently found your forum here and did a lot of reading on the opinions of others for the purpose of buying a new knife, Xmas gift from my wife you know, I settled on the Dozier master skinner and have recieved it just yesterday. Now that is a sharp knife and I am very pleased at this point. I was only able to look at it for a few minutes before it was snatched away and wrapped up. Anyway I will get a better look tomorrow and I wanted to say thanks for all of your help in choosing Dozier as my new knife. My question is how do I keep it that sharp? Is the sharpmaker I have been reading about the way to go for an inexperienced person like myself or is there a better way? All help appreciated.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on a great new knife!
I think you will find Spyderco's Sharpmaker just the ticket to keep your new knife nice and sharp, with even bevels and edges. They are a great tool to keep your edge keen. Get the extra diamond rods for those times when you might need to bring an edge back from real dullness. The only drawback with the Sharpmaker is that it is really not course enough to fix an edge that is really shot. It is great at keeping an edge up to snuff, though. With the extra diamond rods, it is good to go for all extremes!! :D
