howdy, long time lurker, first time poster. i have had a knife in my hand my entire life. i like this forum for its sense of community, its massive knowledge base, and because as an internaut, i love forums ^^. so, i registered and am posting my first right now to show some love to the community that has helped to reignite a passion for all things cutty. the following four images tell more about who i am and what i am all about then an hour of typing. one thing i would like to note is that i am a LONG time user of the interwebz, so i have a really thick skin, and really focused eyes. please feel free to critique/criticize/opine about my skills and/or techniques, any relevant improvements you might suggest, and even threads here that i might find interesting. the knife is ofc Cold Steel's American Lawman (G10, linerless version) with a very rough sand to remove the teflon ( i eat off most, if not all of my knives ). The tip broke off and i cannot recall how, and the entire edge was made using the stone and the piece of leather in the pic ( it is my only sharpening system, i used to use our japanese stoneware dishes, but wife got made at grey/black ring it left on counters :/ ) [ i mean absolutely no offense to anyone or their choices/preferences, i just choose not to use "sharpening kits" , if i could get away with a river rock i actually found and a piece of leather off an animal i had killed it would be ideal...]
the thumb came from the bk2 (wrapping bike tube over handle for grippiness) and is included because that injury occurred as a direct result of this forum and all of its information just freely available to people like me
the stone i use cost 12$ at ace hardware and the leather "strop" used to be a tool pouch for glass workers that i have altered for my purposes
i currently own :
Cold Steel American Lawman
Cold Steel Bushman (classic, not bowie)
Cold Steel Pocket Bushman
Cold Steel GI Tanto (gift, not my choice :/ tanto's are.... :/)
Ontario RAT 1 folder
Ontario Marine Raider SP10
Ontario (Becker?) BK2 [perhaps my favorite knife, but to speak of such notions is heresy] - this knife currently has the pouch off the knife listed below, and inside that pouch is my kershaw something or other folder i found at wally world for ~10$, for my 2 knife outdoors system
a Smith and Wesson "Extraction and Evasion" knife i found on E-Bay for 15$, 1075 Carbon Steel and a little "survival pouch" that i haven't found any information on, maybe one of you could help me there
i technically own a first gen bear grylls "ultimate survival knife" but it is no longer in its "factory condition" and is much closer to being a knife made by me rather than gerber ^^
my wife brought home a DexSteel knife they use at her job for cutting food, and i , *ahem*, altered it for bushcrafting purposes (lol)
that's it, nice to meet you, look forward to the responses, and getting active here
have a good one - j4ck
