Guess I'll make this my first official post in the Swamp. Nice to meet you all!
Got the day off and am about to unleash some RS on the yard... and started thinking about fixed blade carry preferences.
My favorite carry option is crossdraw anterior weak side. I carry the same whether hiking or doing yard work, which obviously involves squatting, bending over, trunk rotation, etc. On the trails, I've found that this carry does not restrict access to hipbelt pockets on packs due to riding parallel with the belt as opposed to perpendicular. This also does not add to the width of my trunk or snag on branches when moving forward or backwards. It can only catch if I'm leading with the right hip... and sometimes gets in the way when bouldering (think clearance when pressed up against rock). Overall, range of motion does not seem impeded.
Always with a stick in hand on trails, my left hand is free. Carrying crossdraw anterior weak side allows quick access with either hand and possibly of high importance-- in one motion, not two.
