Before anyone chews my head off for not posting an intro, I apologize, I couldn't find where to post it. If you could point me in the right direction, that would be great.

To the other point of the thread, I have an opportunity to get the Harpy in carbon fiber plain edge, and the P'Kal in G10. Which one should I get?

Harpy is an all purpose hawkbill and the p'kal is a defensive knife. To decide what you wanna get, you need to ask yourself what you will be using the knife for.

And welcome to the forums!

I've had a P'kal for a few years and a few of spydercos hawk bills.(civilian, matriarch- kinda hawk bills), I've carried all 3, not at the same time, that would be weird. the pkal seems meaner to me than the civilian, its a defensive tool, yes, but its not completely useless as a all around knife. its got a straight edge and a good point. a bit more useful than the hawk bills IMHO.
I'd go for the pkal, just watch opening it up in a coffee shop or someplace of the like. it does look a bit freaky. check out the vid from shivworks.

P'Kal is cool...I had one for quite some time.
I'd go with a plain egded carbon fiber handled Harpy in a second over it though. More useful for regular knife tasks, higher resale value, and full of carbon fiber goodness.:)

The asking price on the Harpy was $170, I thought that was a little lower than it should have been, any opinions?

I would go for the cf Harpy if it was me. That's just on apearence though as I haven't used either.:)

I'd take the Harpy. Somethin' about the P'Kal bothers me. *shrug*

Happy Holidays!

Exactly, p'kal (never owned one) but the ergos look funky, but knowing Spyderco, they're amazing. The harpy has more potential to be a useful edc.

Hi Squints, Farchyld,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Regarding the question, both are very specialized models. I think you might continue the discussion for a while to learn more about the purpose, function, advantages and disadvantages of each model.

Most important, what you you plan to use the knife for?
