Hello all, new guy here. Always had a knife or two in my pocket. Last few knives were Gerbers. Newest was the SOG Trident Tanto. Keep a Gerber assisted open for every day use. SOG is for my SHTF & something has to be done now, it only gets put in pocket, cleaned (dusted) weekly. I usually upgrade once a yr and retire my every day user and move the SHTF blade to my every day user.
So I'm sure every one has seen cold steel claim to cut an entire jungle of bamboo and 500 ropes. I'm interested in their Kukri & Kukri Magnum machetes and wondered if these are quality enough as permanent pieces for a bug out bag, or survival kit. Thanks for anyone with input.
Don't worry I plan on being around a while, I have visions of grandeur; plan on learning to create my own quality blades in the future.

welcome nlcrsn to the forum. cold steel makes decent kukris but i prefer a ferhman final judgment for a b.o.b. lets hear about your chopping when you buy your cutter. dennis

I got their Kukri Machete and its awesome. You need to resharpen the edge, but this is what I call bang for buck. It's my main chopper in my shtf bag. It chops fairly well. You should check out Noss's Knife tests on the kukri machete. Its what convinced me to buy it. I paired it up with my ESEE 6 and leather man wave in my shtf bag

Welcome to the forum!

I just gave a CS Khukri Machete to my little brother for his BOB kit and a CRKT M16, both will serve him well after a good resharpening the CS is a cool machete.

Now if I were to recomment a Khuk go get a Himalayan Imports from Auntie and you'll be happy, for life. My BOB has a Munk Chunk from Himalayan, a CS Spartan and a BRKT Necker.

Cold Steel makes good knifes for reasonable money, they are not the be all, end all but for folders (Rajahs, Spartan, AK 47, Recon 1's and the Voyagers) I can attest to their durability, sharpness and very reasonable ergos.

You'll find mileage varies on this forum with Cold Steel, SOG and CRKT but they are all good knives.

Busse, Fehrman, Strider are the boutique brands that make high dollar knives that are worth saving up for, just don't get caught in the hype, a knife is only as good as the hand it's in.

Cheers Bro!
