Hi everyone
Just though I would introduce myself to your forum.
I was turned on to HI from a post in the Surplus Rifle forum
that I belong to. I have always been interested in Gurkha
knives since my Grandfather telling me stories from WWII.
He was in the China Burma India theater during the war and
had seen the Gurkha soldiers while there. The "large curved
machete" had always stuck in his head.
I own a vintage Gurkha knife from the war dated 1944. After
seeing the pictures of the HI knife from the post I knew I had
to have one. I received my BAS today and it is awesome. I like
to think this is how my Grandfather felt when he saw those
Gurkha soldiers with their "big knives".
Take care Big W

You're in trouble now, buddy... These things are addictive ;):D:thumbup:...

Welcome to the forum:)

Like I always say, these HI khuks tend to be habit forming;)
Enjoy your new khuk, and welcome to the fold:thumbup:

Any tales from the CBI you'd care to share? My Dad served in N.Africa & Europe & 2 uncles in the Pacific. CBI is pretty much the forgotten theatre. I've done some reading on the big picture but anecdotes are scarce.
Uplander

No problem Uplander, it would be an honor to
talk about my grandfather.
He served in the 14th Army Airforce under
Clair Lee Chenault. It was the successor to
what was know as the Flying Tigers. As a
matter of fact the 14th's patch is of a "flying tiger".
He was a ground crew mechanic on the famous
P-40 Warhawks that patrolled the skies in this
theater of war.
He flew the over "the Hump" many times in C-47's.
He served from what what I can remember 42-45
and fortunate for him didn't see any action. I have
all his pictures from the war including one of him
in front of the Taj Mahal. As you can understand
they are among my most cherished possessions
Big W

Welcome, Big W.

Neat story. My dad's best friend, many years ago, had been stationed in India and other places overseas. His house had all kinds of weird (to me as a kid) carvings, tapestries and other exotic stuff he'd picked up over there.

So, too, one day I remembered this big honkin' curved knife which hung on a wall- it had two smaller knives in it's kit.

He used to use to cut weeds, and underwater  to keep water weeds away from his pier.

Looking back from 2008 to 1978, I hope he had Ballistol- and used it.
