Gday everybody.
My name is Graeme. I live in Brisbane Au.
My hobbies include guitar, fishing, kayaking, camping, bush walking, & the most important reason why Im here! American folding knives!! (& a boker epicenter; nuff said!)
It all started with the Spyderco Tenacious & delica. It has been a downward spiral ever since.
It is more a case of OCD I think! Just one more!, & so on.
I recently acquired my first Para2 camo/satin from AG Russell. Wow! Now I understand what all the fuss is about.
These are one of the best designed practical folders you can buy. imo. So based on this, I am on the hunt for any sprint runs that become available.;)
Others in my collection include ZT`s, in 550,560,560cbcf, & the 801. Oh, nearly forgot to add the most sought after knife in Oz; A Hinderer XM24 flipper with brown frag scales! Totally Awesome! I have one locally made custom, & a few slippies. Not many, but have only been seriously collecting for a couple of years. Many grails to come.

Didnt know where to post this, thats why Im here.
Hope to be a valuable contributor on the forums, & hope to have many blade related discussions in future.

Kind Regards Graeme...

Educate me on aussie knife laws/social acceptance please.

I was under the impression Australia was not actually that knife friendly?

As of December 2011, an election promise was made to improve violent crimes with knives! So in their wisdom, they banned the importation of one hand opening, flippers, bali, just about every decent collectable folder you can imagine!
What they dont understand, is criminals & idiots dont spend thousands of dollars on folders to commit crime. There is absolutely no evidence or proof that this is the case. From my limited research, F#$kall folders were ever used in knife crime!! Usually cheaparse kitchen knives, & other sharp things are used.

There are still limited stocks available from local online sellers, who still have some stuff, (delicas, crickets dragonfly, ect), & there is the odd Aussie slezebay stuff for sale ie, para2 were going for $450!! at one stage. Those thieves didnt realize that the para 2 is not a controlled item as we speak, & are legal to import. go figure. Customs use a "flick test" to determine whether a folder can be opened by gravity, inertia, or momentum, if it can, it will be confiscated.

As far as social acceptance goes, whenever someone at work sees me cutting open boxes with my new edc para2, you always get "that look", or why do you need a knife like that. They are all " sheeple, who have been brainwashed to believe all folders are owned by criminals with bad intent.
We are all just puppets that have to toe the line.
Our carry laws, well. you cant, unless you have a damn good reason; use for work, on you while fishing ect. God forbid if you had one in public!, you might get shot! Cops have shot people for less.

Now for the good! We have a very popular knife culture here, with some world class makers as well. I am a member of the Australian Blade Forums, same as this, with a constant stream of new members joining every day. Check it out sometime!

Hope this answers some of your questions.

Regards Graeme.
