Welcome aboard! Looks like you have a nice grinder there. knifemaking is a lot of fun and I hope you enjoy it.

Dave

P.S. Saw the sword you posted in the sword forum. Sure looks like the real thing to me. Do not polish it, oil it, or do anything to it. It could be worth quite a bit.

Thanks its a nice sword. I wont sell it but would like to preserve it. Mostly Im worried about the leather its pretty dry. I am almost positive that it is a Model 1850 Infantry officers sword. If it is fake its an old fake my dad has owned it 40+ years.

Don't worry about the leather, if it's an 1850 model it's been that way a long time. how long is the blade? Does it feel very light and lively in the hand? I've handled an 1840 sword with a 36" blade, I was astonished at how light it seemed, even though the blade width at the guard was easily 1/4" thick .Levine is supposed to be the guy who can authenicate this type of sword. Let's see what he says.

32 inches long and a hair over 1/4 thick on the spine. While I was looking at it I just noticed an engraving on the spine I hadnt seen it says :****N PROOF
Im not a sword guy but yeah it feels good and lively. Maybe I should have posted it in BRL's forum lol

Oh yeah, you should post it there. I think it'll ring true as a real civil war sword, but it's always a bit of a roll of the dice.

Welcome! You can do a lot with that Craftsman. If you have any questions about getting good belts for it, or modding it, hit me up. :)
