I have a 6 month old neutered male shorthair tabby and just adopted another neutered male of the same type that is approx 2-3 months old. Right now, they are chasing each other all over the place. The new cat is very fast. So far the most aggression I've seen is some swatting and a little hissing from both cats. I figure if they really hated each other, there would be some real bad noise and biting jugular kind of stuff. Any advice on how to do this right and make it more seemless? Or am I expecting too much out of them on their first day together?

Not an expert but did have plenty of cats growing up.

Unless it never calms down it is normal. Part play and part establishing dominance.

The partially white one is the younger. The picture doesn't do a good size comparison, but this was the only good shot I could get of the 2 sitting together.

matt, matt, matt- are you gonna become some crazy cat man that sits on the toilet and talks to their friend at the same time while also talking to his girl-friend????

noooooo!, that couldnt happen:D:D:D

Uh-oh! It looks like the stripped one has that "crazy-cat" look in his eyes. The younger one looks like he knows he is number one.

Mrrrreeooowwww! I see lots of tussles in your future. A great disturbance in the cat nip.

Ehhhh? Who hasn't carried on multiple conversations while deploying the Marines for water ops?

I was playing with the younger one and I found a cluster of nipples on it's lower belly. I checked further and what I had first thought was an empty nutsack in the process of healing now might be vag. Just to be sure, males don't have nips, do they? I tried lookng on my oldest and couldn't find anything, though his hair down there is quite thick.

Male cats have nips.

If they're still hissing & fighting after about two weeks(usually the norm),they'll probably never get along.

Some folks say to introduce the cats on a neutral playing field - i.e., not at one cat's home territory - to avoid the response a cat will have of wanting to defend its territory. Sorta makes sense.

They aren't hissing and fighting anymore. Actually they are inseperable. They chase each other around and wrestle but they always end up grooming each other.

Well, since they aren't hissing and fighting all the time, I'd guess the little one is a male.

If they're playing together and grooming each other then they should be alright especially since they are pretty close in age. The most cats I ever had at one time was three and while they would fight or hiss occasionally they would pretty much get along with each other. There was, however, always a pecking order based on who was there first - The OG one ruled the roost and picked on the other two while the middle one (who was the oldest BTW) only picked on the third one.

Your eldest looks to be a cousin of my current ten-and-a-half pound bundle of pure evil:

p.s. For your safety I would recommend taking this test if you haven't already done so: http://www.catswhothrowupgrass.com/kill.php

I'm glad I did.

Sounds like they are probably best buddies already. They may infrequently get on one another's nerves now and then. Cats have moods like people.

I just played it at full volume with both kitties 3 ft from me. The youngest looked like a tweaker caught in a weapon mounted surefire. The older kept playing with that long piece of velcro on my laptop cable.

I love that vid BTW.

We have one cat who we all nicknamed Mr. Grumpy Pants. He was our second cat, and he gets along very well with our first, a female. We got a female kitten about 2 years ago, and the 2 younger ones have never gotten along. They will tolerate each other, and sleep in the same area, but heaven forbid they ever meet at the food dish.

Sounds like you avoided this, though. It's great to give them a playmate. We travel to my parents quite often, and our first cat would cry pitifully when we would leave for the weekend, until we got her a friend. Now they barely notice when we're not there.

I don't have any children and live by myself. I can't put into words how much I love these cats. It really "gets me out of myself" having these living things that are totally dependent on me. What blows my mind is that they didn't really have any choice about coming to my home, but when they sit on my lap or comb my hair with their little sandpaper tongues.... its just amazing when they adopt you. They help keep me sober just by being in my life.
