This has to be one of the funnest knives I have ever made.

For a long time, I have had the idea kicking around in my head to make a "sharp finger like" knife. It is probably one of the mostly widely used hunting knives. Except, I wanted to change a few things.

Here is the sharp finger.

Then, Rupestris posted this knife design in a couple different threads.

Again, I liked the blade shape, and his posting kicked me in the butt to get to doing something about it :)

To Be Continued......

With all the curves on this thing, it reminds me of a pirate knife. Hence the name, Captain Jack! I have to give my wife credit for that one though. Well, let's get on with the pics.

Here it is in hand to help show some scale.

And, I had to make up a sheath for it, and an appropriate firesteel (with Light My Fire blank).

After cutting out a template, I thought about taming down the curves a bit. But, I am glad I didn't. I really like it as is. It may not be the most general purpose design, but there is something about it that makes me really dig it.

The handle is Mesquite. A customer sent me some old mesquite to make a bushcrafter. I liked it so much, I had to get some for my own knife. It is not as special as the stuff he sent me, but it is still neat looking.

Here are some specs for those interested:
Blade Length: 4"
Overall Length: 8 1/2"
Thickness: 3/32"
Width at widest point: 1 3/8"
Steel: O1
Finish: Hand sanded finish
Handle: Mesquite with black liners
Weight: A mere 4 ounces

Thanks for looking. And as always, comments welcome. Especially constructive criticism.

A couple attached for HD.

That is a great looking knife. The mesquite looks fantastic on top of the black liners.

While the blade shape isn't my style, you did an outstanding job on that knife Brian!

The handle looks beautiful and the grind is perfect!

Great work!!!!

I like it.

BGA have you ever made any scandis in the 3 3.25" range??

Only in my "Boys First Knife." But, if you have something in mind in that size, with a more adult handle, I would be more than willing to do it.

Very nice!
:thumbup::thumbup:
Captain Jack eh?
Am i the only one who immediately thought of the Billy Joel song of the same name?
lol!

Brian, I have to say that that is one fine looking knife. There's just something about the way you got the curves down on that one. Well done.

Nope! I'd quote some of the lyrics, but none of them are appropriate for a family forum. :o Now the melody is stuck in my head...

That knife is awesome. Straight lines are kinda boring... that design really has a nice flow to it. Congrats on building a winner, Brian!

Nicely done, Brian! I'm a big fan of trailing points, and I bet you'll find it's not as task specific as it feels at first:thumbup: Between the design and the wood choice (I'm a big fan of mesquite), I think you've got a real winner there:D

Looks like that would be handy when I am skinning and cleaning my game. Although not my type of bush-blade, I believe I would love that when I am hunting!

Looks great!

Like others have said it looks like a great for cleaning game...definitely a winner in my book.

The sheath could use some more burnishing - really burn in those edges with some gum tag and the rub it ard with some duck cloth - other than that - I LOVE the pants!

I used to do that all the time. Since I started waxing sheaths, I haven't bothered. But, I probably could again. Have tons of that stuff around for sure.

Very cool design Brian - for some reason 'reverse nesmuk' pops into mind.

I just want to poke something with that point - looks very sharp!

That's a good one dude. It's funny. I have a Sharpfinger. Loved everything except the handle. I used to see a knife like this in my dreams. It could be something that is buried deep in your psyche as well. I think it's a winner.

This is very slimiar to a early native american scalping knives.

God Bless

ARRRGH!!!! Walk the plank you scallywag!

Nicely done Brian. Let us drink rum and celebrate with wenches! Beautiful blade!
