Hey everyone. My name's Rob. I'm 28 and live just outside Washington, DC (huge sports fan as you can probably tell from my username). I've been lurking for a while, and finally signed up today. Lot of great people and content here!

I'm a total novice, but I have been learning about different knife steels and blade shapes, etc. I guess my interest was first piqued when I traveled to Spain and visited Toledo. Every shop window had knives of all shapes, colors, and sizes. I was awe-struck. I didn't end up buying any, and I regret it. Now a year later, I've ordered a Spanish-made folder (Nieto) to try to reclaim that missed opportunity in Toledo. I'll also be using that purchase as a way to dip my feet into this pool and see if I want to dive in (I already have many other hobbies, including watch-collecting, guitar, tabletop wargaming, and aquarium keeping). Why not add another, right?

I didn't ever go camping as a kid. In fact, my first camping trip was 3 years ago when my wife took me camping for our 1-year wedding anniversary. I loved it, and have really taken to the whole "outdoors/bushcraft" genre of stuff. I did buy a Buck Endeavor about a year ago for camping use, and I like it ok but am not enamored with it. It does the job without any pomp-and-circumstance. I've also been looking into a Muela Kodiak (I apparently have a thing for Spanish knives!) to see if higher-quality steel and slightly higher priced knives are something that resonate with me or if I will just stay in the lower-priced, but not China-made realm of the hobby.

Anyways, enough rambling. Just wanted to say hi! I'll be sure to post pics when the Nieto comes in.

Welcome! Spanish knives can be addictive. Muelas are great knives, go ahead and get the Kodiak, it sure is a hell of a knife, very respected in Spanish knife forums. Before you know it you will be looking at Aitors... Nietos... Cudemans...you get the idea.
