Hello everyone, I just thought I would introduce myself by way of displaying my knife collection. I have never been a part of a forum before, but I occasionally peruse BF since I come from a long ling of tinkerers, smiths, mechanics, etc. so I thought it was high time I join the community. I am about to start on my first knife forging adventure and I am in the process of finishing up my first stock removal blade (rightmost pictured blade). My father smiths, but most of what he knows is second hand knowledge passed down my family, so I am always looking for more advice and other ways of doing things. With that said, I am eager to learn from all of those willing and patient enough to help me along the way. Thanks everyone!

Welcome. Thanks for showing your collection. Some nice knives.

Welcome! I see you have an Opinel, a Mora, and a Svord. Real winners right there!

Thank you! While expensive, custom knives have their place in every collection, I think there is something to be said about the cheap-but-good quality of brands like Svord, Mora, and Opinel. Plus, I love the customization that the carbon blade allows by putting a patina on it and the staining and customizing of the wooden handle/scales.

Thanks everyone for your welcomes and input!

What I love about those types of knives is that you can beat the hell out of it and not really have to worry about destroying it. Forget customs, I'm a little hesitant to use one of my Paramilitaries for heavy work outdoors because if I break the tip, I'm out ~ 150 bucks. If I break an Opinel #8, I can buy four more on Amazon for 40 dollars.

That's very true! I just find that I get attached to the patina or particular customization I have done with the handle and it makes me a little more cautious, but I have definitely put my Mora and Condor through their paces!

Take a look at Tramontina machetes. The Opinel of machetes. I own two of the 14" bolo machetes, never been happier with a blade.
