I got started in this addiction with a cheap unknown (I think it mighta been a Parker) SS gent's linerlock. First knife I ever had that you could open and close with one hand. I freaking loved that little knife. EDC'd it for a long time. I even had our machinist engrave my initials on it. That of course was the curse as I lost if shortly thereafter.

Since then, I've looked for something to love just as much. So far Spyderco has the lead. My S30V Native from Walmart is da bomb. This was preceded by a Kershaw Chive that still works when I wear a suit.

Losers and Drawer Queens include a Blackie Collins Strut n Cut (loose blade) and a Timberline Timberlite (Neely lock unreliable).

So here's the questions:

On this boards is there a sharpening primer? The search feature? on this board is so funky that 2 word searches crash the engine?

My Native is FRN so there are no washers etc. Will wear of the blade against the nylon eventually be a problem? It's riveted so I guess adjustment is out of the question.

Next purchases will be a Sypdie Mini Persian or Viele 2. Hopefully both but my wife will kill me if I get even one... Either will be in EDC rotation so any advice? I wear dress slacks to work so trim is good.

Speaking of which, are there many suit wearing types on this board? Recommendations for trim but quality sub $100 locking folders would be great.

Sharpening 101 = Spyderco Sharpmaker DVD.

Actually, there is an excellent book available, usually from several places on the 'Net. It's The Razor Edge Book of Sharpening by John Juranitch (sp?).

The search feature should work fine if you just enter sharpening as the search term. You could also eyeball "The Toolshed: Knife Care, Maintenance, Tinkering, and Embellishment" for threads that talk about sharpening if you're having trouble with the search feature.

You should have no trouble with your Native pivot wearing out in your lifetime :D.

For slim & lightweight, an FRN Spyderco Caly Jr comes to mind. If you want something light and trim, but more substantial (and more expensive), one of the G10 Caly 3s is under $100.00, or a carbon fiber Caly 3 is available for about $150.00

If you want to branch out a bit, Al Mar makes some great little linerless folders in their ultralight series, or linered and bolstered gents knives in a smaller blade size.

There are many other quality gents knives out there, these are just the ones I'm familiar with.

BTW, welcome aboard!
