Salutations, all. Having been a relative lurker on this subforum with only sporadic posts, I decided it was about time for me to introduce myself. My name is Michael Carpenter, and I'm from South Dakota (currently). Though I live in a town, below is a picture of the surrounding area.
I was born in Ft. Benning, GA, 21 years ago and, being from a military family, have done a bit of traveling about the country.
I first found out about Beckers when my brother bought a bk7 in 2003 or so. It has gone back and forth from him to me over the years, and currently resides with him, as he is planning on taking it on his deployment. I had forgotten about Becker knives as I grew up, and went though a cold steel phase in my early teens. A year or so ago, I happened upon Bladeforums and saw the Becker subforum. I decided to take a look and eventually made an account, though it was a while before my first post. Though I had seen the bk14 before online, it took me until April to decide to get one, and I've never looked back.
It took me a while to understand to what degree the stock sheath was dulling my knife, and at a certain point (October, I believe), I decided to do something about it. It took me three or four hours spanning two days, to complete the leather sheath I made.
The only thing I wish is that it kept it shape a little better in the heat. With the way the temperatures and drought last summer, I don't quite expect it to have the level of retention that it currently has next summer. I carry it horizontally in front of pants, where a belt buckle would normally be. I am quite happy with the way it performs, and since I made it out of leather from an old boot, I can't complain much. Thanks for reading, and I'm happy to be part of such a generous community here at the Becker subforum. Pictures to follow.
The sheath sitting next to it's pair, were it still part of a boot.
And sitting on top of the boot.
