Ive been making knives for a few years now and thought it was about time that I share. I have really wanted to make folding knives and I was finally able to get a milling machine and have been making great progress. My passion is in blending modern and oldschool. I really want to make framelock flipper knives that have hand forged blades. That presents a lot of challenges but Ive been working around them. I have a very good feeling about this build and Im so excited about it that I wanted to share. The blade is w-2 and the shape, taper and bevels were forged in, the pivot area and flipper are going to be cut out and ground to shape so that the area keeps flat. There is a lot of extra material so that I have a flat area to clamp down in the milling machine to face the pivot area to clean it up and make it perfectly flat. The fully cut out blade is my template when I am forging, I was trying to forge it to the final shape as much as possible and I kept catching my paper templates on fire as I was comparing it. The goal is to leave the forge texture and scale above the grind so that in the closed position the ground part will not be exposed, only the forge texture. I would love feedback and advice and in the coming weeks I will update as I get a chance to work on it. Thanks!

Made a little more progress, heat treated the blade using my charcoal forge. I read online somewhere about using a tube and thermocouple to accurately hold temperature. I really wanted to use my charcoal forge to accurately heat treat; it worked quite well. The last picture is of my sandbox for tempering. After I press in the stop pin I will cut the lockbar and finish shaping the handles.

Thanks for looking, and thanks powerslave and Craig!

Welcome! Looking forward to your WIP. When I switched from paper templates to tracing the pattern on my anvil with soapstone, I experienced a lot less smoke in my shop! :D

Looks good. I would buy one from what I've seen.
