As you may notice I am a new member here at BF and I thought I would take the time to formally introduce myself. I am here because I love knives, especially Kershaws and ZTs. I have always loved knives growing up as a kid and can even remember the first time I cut myself with a SAK when I was about 8 years old. I still have a scar on my finger... :o My Dad used Spydercos as a police officer and one of my favorite knives is an old beat up original Endura that he gave me upon his retirement.

I have knives from a handful of makers but lately I have been drawn to Kershaws and ZTs, especially the Skyline. It is my current "quest" to get all of the Skylines so that will be fun I am sure.

I have also been swooning over the Hinderer ZT series of knives and I have recently picked up a 0550BLK with the DLC coated blade. This is where my question comes in. Oh, and by the way, this is an awesome knife! The fit and finish on it is amazing. Back to the question. Upon close inspection of the bushings when the knife is opened and closed I am noticing that they are "sticking" to the blade and thus moving freely against the frames. Is this okay? I am thinking that the coating on he blade has something to do with this. I do not have a 0550 to compare but I was expecting there to be movement between the blade and the bushings. Please let me know if I should be concerned about wear occurring where it shouldn't. As of this post I have done no adjustments to the knife and opened it a about a dozen times.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to being a member of this forum.

Welcome to the forums and to ZT/Kershaw knives and congrats on the 550BLK, its a fantastic knife!

I have one of my 550BLK's with me today and I just checked it for what you are talking about and my bushings move with the blade as well. When I get home I will check my 550 and see if it does it too and I am also going to disassemble my 550BLK and clean/oil the pivot to see if it still does it. I will let you know what I find out.

It's perfectly fine. The washers will move with whichever surface contact brings the most friction. On a Skyline I have, the washer against the G10 stays put, the other against the liner moves with the blade. On my Blur, they both stay put. The idea with them is that the movement is more fluid, and to reduce friction. It's always going to adhere to one surface or the other, it's just how it works.

Stick hit it on the head. If you think about it, especially a dlc coated blade, it should have more friction than the stonewashed liners. Either side of the bushing does the same job, no need to worry!

yup, it won't matter which surface the washers resist against, and usually they will rotate with a DLC'd blade versus a liner. When I get a DLC'd blade, I polish the mating surface area with fine grit sandpaper. It confuses the washer!

Thank you all for the responses. You have put me at ease. I am thoroughly enjoying this knife.
