Hi all

I'm new to the knife world...well not really. I've always had a decent low to mid level knife around or in my pocket, old timer, buck, Kershaw ken onion, gerber, etc. I'm just now stepping my game up at the age of 33. New job, more disposable income and I think to myself hey I should get a really good knife. After extensive research I have picked out and purchased a Benchmade griptilian 553sbk combo blade. It appears that this is the gateway knife of many. While I am looking forward to years of enjoyment with this knife, all of my research has led me into this world I know so little about. I fear that this Grip may not be my last high end knife purchase. Thanks for all the help I received by reading the forums before purchasing!

Fear not. Just let go accept the insane amount of money that this forum will help you spend [emoji16]

Gun and guitar forums have cost me an insane amount of money over the years. This is my first knife forum, and it will probably be no different.

Warning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This forum has caused several purchases of knives ranging from Mora & Svords on the cheap side to KaBars and Tops in the middle area, and Busse and Benchmades in the upper tiers...I haven't even started to touch the customs yet....Other possible side effects can include a very ticked off significant other, a strict diet of Top Ramen, friends who chide you constantly with WOW another knife, and a general lack of large numbers in your bank account.

As a side note once these things happen there is generally no cure, and the infection will most certianly continue to include mumbling about the newest steel types and how stain resisant, wear resistant, or tough they are, and in turn this will lead to more mumbling about new sharpening media.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the forums and make sure to drink the kool-aid.

welcome aboard ..the benchmade 553 grip is an excellent knife ,,i tend to collect the mini grip series myself

The Griptilian is a great knife. I have a full size and a mini and will definitely get more. There is a local dealer with a good stock of Benchmade stuff and is competitive with any of the online outfits. It's real hard to leave there without one.

I am truly blessed to have a wife that doesn't object to my buying habits. Was in the above mentioned Benchmade dealer and she has demanded a Impel for our anniversary next month, and a Mini Barrage for Xmas.:D

Welcome! Lots to read and learn here. For starters, you really can't go wrong with any Benchmade or Spyderco. And whatever you initially get, even if you absolutely love it, you'll eventually get something else to try.

It's the never-ending search for the perfect EDC (or hunting knife, or bushcrafting knife, or survival knife, or multitool, or etc.) that we're addicted to. Good thing we have an Exchange Forum here (gotta be a paying member to have access to that), where we can sell old blades to fund new blades... and the cycle seems to never end... always something new to try.

Hahaha oh man I am a guitar player....AGF and TGP have taken up a lot of time and money, but now I have those six strings needs met and I'm looking for a new obsession. Lol
