Hello everyone,

I am brand new to the forum and am sure I will learn a lot from the discussions here. I thought I would do a brief introduction and currently have a very small collection of knives. I try to get use out of each one at one time or another. Some are nice and some are...well, let's just say functional. Kershaws currently make up the bulk of them. They are:

3X Kershaw Leek (1660SWBLK, 1660CKT, 1660CKTST)
Kershaw Mini Mojo
Kershaw Baby Boa
Kershaw Scallion
Viper Evo (Maple Burl)
Viper Slim (Ox Horn)
Gerber Trendy
Mcusta Ripple

I am trading in a knife (not listed here) because I made an impulse buy at a knife show and the knife is too large for me to comfortably carry. With this credit, I am trying to decide between two different knives and was wondering if some of you with experience with them could offer any suggestions. The two I am looking at are the Benchmade Mini Barrrage 586 and the CRKT Ken Onion Eros. This is a dilemma for me because I really like the blade material and the assisted open on the Mini Barrage, but also like the titanium handle on the Eros, and it's a Ken Onion! I'm an Onion fan after owning all my Kershaws. I may just break down and buy them both, but that would be hard on the wallet right now. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you,
Phil

Well, first, let me welcome you to the forums! You've just entered the realm of no return, you will want to be on here for days learning everything you can and gazing at everybody's knife pics (I know I did when I first started here.) :D Sounds like you've gotten a good collection up and going! Let me start off now by saying I'm both a huge CRKT fan and a huge Benchmade fan, so here goes. The Barrage was the one knife me and my buddy used last year alot trapping, its a sturdy folder and really is typical of Benchmades quality. I do not own an Eros but it has IKBS. The Ripple I used to have had the IKBS bearing system, no blade play whatsoever in it and it opened just as fast as my assisted knives and smoother than any other blade I've ever owned. The Acuto+ steel was very nice, it held a good edge and got wicked sharp. You really can't go wrong either way I feel, just my .02.

Welcome to the Forum, Neighbor!

To your question: If I'm buying a knife just to have a new knife, then I tend to buy a knife that is unlike anything I already have - that's how I learn about new things. But, if I'm buying a knife for a specific role, then I tend to buy something that I already know will work well in that role.

Thanks for the posts. It was too difficult of a decision, so I decided to buy both the Eros with the titanium handle and the Mini Barrage! I'm sure both will be great.

Pix are in order!

Required too, I think -- I'm pretty sure it's in the rules.

Haha, just kidding, but pix are always welcomed!!

Can't go wrong with getting both  And both companies have good customer service as well, so that should be a big plus. Can't wait to see some pics!
