Hey Everyone,

I've been lurking on here for a bit, monitoring the Fiddleback Fridays and sharked one I think I might actually like to keep today, the Herringbone Sneaky Pete in SFT 5/32 O1.

What do people think about 5/32 SFT Sneaky's? I'd been holding out for a Sneaky/Bushcrafter/Bushfinger and similar models, but I was strongly leaning toward 1/8 or TT (burlap only) to diversify my knife collection, as I like the idea of a light/fast dagger-style blade. However, it seems like a 5/32 SFT would lend itself well to bushcrafting activities, which would be my primary use for the knife (when else am I carrying a 4" knife?). I've read some of the other threads on SFT vs TT and 1/8 vs 5/32, but how about how it pertains to the 4" heavier duty blades?

I've never actually held a FF, so I may just accept this one and try it out and return it if need be. My funds, unfortunately, are not unlimited. Andy and Ken do free return shipping, don't they?

My other knives are a couple of Blind Horse and ESSEEs.

Thanks!

Congratulations on your new Sneaky Pete. In the 4" knives earmarked for bushcrafting, I prefer the 5/32" variety in 01 steel. I feel that it gives you a broader range of capability. I have an SP in 1/8" CPM 154. This is actually thicker than 1/8", and I find it to be just about perfect. It is very close to 5/32. The SP is one of my favorites, and I EDC the one I described. If it does not suit you, I will take it off your hands. I have been looking for one in 5/32. The reason I did not buy the other SP (only one left after I made my priority requests) is that it was in 1/8, and I already have one in 1/8" 01 steel. Just email or PM me if it does not suite you.

The Sneaky Pete is a super fantastic profile. At first it looked a little to aggressive for me, but after getting one in my hand.... I'm hooked. I have a 5/32" super high grind, TT that I am using everyday. Amazing profile! I tend to prefer 1/8", but 5/32" with a fairly high grind gets the job done. A piece of 1/8" thick steel, 8" long and 1 1/4" tall is stout; I feel it will take nearly any use you would ever have for it, but some like the appearance and the confidence thicker blades offer. That herringbone is super nice looking, congratulations on the choice!

Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah, I think I'll go ahead with it and shoot it over to Mac if it doesn't fit the bill. Still have to try a TT in the future.

Yes, I'm very excited for the profile. I prefer drop point/spearpoint patterns by a wide margin and an interested to have the SP twist on that style of knife.

I carry a SP TT every day I'm off duty. Not going to tell you one size is better than another. Thats for you to figure out 'in hand'. I do prefer the TT over a SFT .. from a balanced feel (to me).

Congratulations on your purchase. Pretty sure it wont be your one and only Fiddleback. ;)
