I'd like to know in which year the 112 Ranger knife was introduced. I've not seen that information. Thanks.

1972: first version was 440C blade with "Buck, U.S.A." stamped on two lines and read with the blade pointed down, black micarta scales with two small brass inlay rivets and stainless rocket rivet, and brass spring holder (spacer).

That's what I expected. So where do you recommend I go looking to find one of these early 112's?

Search Buck, Vintage Buck, Buck 112 and VIntage Buck 112 on the bay. I followed 1 for 2 days and with a few minutes to go it was still 10.50 or something. Ended up getting it for I think $18 plus shipping. Just gotta be lucky sometimes. I've seen more inverted 2 liners-mostly 110's, in the past few days than I can remember in the last year.

Its not mint but it'll do.

You got lucky and that model didn't come with a nail nick . DM

Lucky is right DM-and that usually aint my middle name.
Besides the nick, the beveled edge is also question, we talked about this at lenght and Joe thought just maybe it was a special request or employee mod at the factory. The 3 dot fg that gordon sent me has a very similar beveled edge and he said it was an employee mod, so mine just might have been done factory:confused::)

110 bevel

112 bevel
whatya think?

I thin k $128.75 is normal for what a first version, first variation 112, new in the box would go for . I almost gave within a few dollars of that figure at the 20yr. reunion to a Buck collector and it was for just the knife . Not in as nice condition as that one . To collectors the box, paperwork and in new condition Really make a difference and if you want one of those you'll have to pay $130 . DM

Be sure to see that it has a brass spacer and not a stainless..If it's a real mint, not cleaned up [bolsters toned] perfect box and sheath, well,I would say better than $200.00 Its just soooo rare to find one of the few that are... unmolested...and for sale.

It did indeed have brass spacers.

Yes, I agree . The seller even stated that point .
300, Yes it may be in not so good shape but still it could sell for 40-50$ . Send it to Buck or Leroy and let them clean it up and it doubles in price . With no sheath, box or paperwork add these items in and Bucksway price is very close . DM

Many "Mint" collector knives really are not.. Close but not true NIB .Fussy investors demand a true mint knife and are willing to pay extra for it.Car collectors are like that too...For that last one percent [%] that will make a Number 1 car or a NIB Buck really original/perfect will cost 25% or even more than one even after a long look seems perfect....Little things happen to items that were stored 30 or 40 years ago..Heck a few years of just sun will slightly fade a box..I kinda admire them that go for the very best AND preserve what they buy/invest in....
