I thought I would pop in and introduce my self. My name is Jarod Todd, I am a custom knife maker that Forges as well as does stock removal. I now mostly forge out my blades except for a few that i grind out. I live in Utah and am employed as a machinist. I really never realized this forum was here as i spend all my time in the makers section. there has been some talk of this forum over there so i thought i would come over and say hi. I will paste in some of my work for your enjoyment. I don't make a lot of high dollar knives as i try to keep them priced so the average Joe can afford them. these are pictures of my later knives, I have not taken any of my recent creations.

I love it love it love it!! what a great picture, the first one. What kind of handle is that, jade? the 2nd photo also calls out to me, nice work

Look forward to seeing more of your work....knives and photos!

Hi Jarod,

The first knife (it is also on your web site). You say the sheath is $75 extra.

What type of sheath would that be? Leather I suspect??

Have you considered using Kydex?

Kydex SUCKS, imo!!!!

You don't like mokume' gane...but ask about KYDEX?

Out of all my knives, like two of them are with kydex.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I'm sure the knives are nice, but I am easily distracted and haven't quite got past the background on that first pic. :o

Seriously, though - nice work.

STeven,

The knife has a G-10 or Micarta handle....it appears the actual material will remain a mystery.

If the handle was black, gray, tan, burgundy, another shade of green...yes a Kydex sheath with multi-position clip would be a perfect match.

Kydex is very useful material, conforms to the shape of the knife, takes a beating, does not hold moisture and will not stretch to the point to where it will no longer secure the knife properly. Now it is important to that you line the throat as to help keep away the scratches.

So yes...Kydex.

Mokume and Giraffe bone are still no-no's. Jigged bone only on replicas of classic old factory pattern folders.

As I said, I suspect at $75 it is a leather sheath.

I was thinking that at $75 that is 30% of the cost of the knife. Just seems a little pricy to me for a $250 knife.

I like the look of the knife as well as the third one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I suspect the 1st knife is handled in G11.

Kydex is not my cuppa' Joe. :D

Hi Aaron,

From his web site:

Blade: hollow ground 1/4" 5160 Handle: light green micarta, could be G10 but not sure as I got it unlabeled Sheath: not made yet, sheath is an extra $75. Price: $200.00

My mistake I thought the knife was $250...it is in fact $200 which makes the $75 sheath makes the cost of the knife an additional 38%.

He is building a nice looking knife for the average Joe (as he says).

I'll just wait to find out why the sheath is $75. Hell it may be some kind of concealment rig. With multi-position carry...which is very cool.

Aaron, there are a lot of expensive knives that have Kydex sheaths and some that have Kydex liners with nylon or even leather over them.

Les, I don't dispute that for a moment. I have no problems with Kydex if it's attached to MOLLE. :p Otherwise, leather is simply a more appealing option for me.

I was under the impression that G11 was generally a translucent green color and that G10 was "everything else". But my impressions have been known to be flawed on occasion!

Thanks for posting your work . looks like you have a diverse line up and they look good. Welcome aboard

For some reason, this one captures my attention the most. I can't put my finger on why that is. Must be some kind of subliminal advertising going on or something.
;)

I think the handle material is either G-10 or G-11. I really like the look of the knife.

No Kydex for me, but there are lots of people that like it.

Really not a mystery, at the time I sold it to JT, I thought it was g-10, but after processing about 15,000lbs of the same material, I found an original label saying G-11 manufactured by the International paper company. All of the material came from the same source. Thus as the seller of said handle material, I say it is G-11.

Just wanted to set the record straight.

Hi Jim,

I like the look of it as well. I was just going off what Jarod had on his web site.

Still looking for an answer to the sheath question.

At the time, neither of us knew for sure, but the label still stuck to the material sealed the deal.

Sorry, I can not help you on the sheath, I pretty ignorant of those matters.:)
Good to see you Gold Les, Get some orders for some of that green stuff, it makes a great user knife.

Jim
