Hi all,
I hope this is the right place for introductions. I just finished writing one in detail, when my browser crashed and lost everything I wrote. I really don't want to redo the whole thing, so here's the condensed version:
I've been casually collecting knives (and sometimes swords) on and off for almost two decades. I like to test out new acquisitions with a series of standard tests I created, and write evaluations to help me make better purchases in the future. I also enjoy the outdoors, basic bushcraft, camping, and other such activities when I get the opportunity, which doesn't come as often these days. For years I have been using Blade Forums for info and different perspectives, but never registered until today.
I travel between the U.S. and Japan for work. In Japan, I sometimes take trips to Seki City to see shows, talk with dealers and makers, and of course to buy. Collecting habits vary depending on where I am (b/c laws, availability, etc) and my collection is often spread between two or more locations. I also like collecting pieces from other parts of the world (e.g. traditional blade styles, local brands, etc) and learning about how they were used, made, designed, and so on. Knives are such ubiquitous tools, found in every culture going back into prehistory, and the knives each culture has made reflect the history and values of the people. If you have any suggestions along these lines, please tell me!
I love to learn new things, and I hope you will share your knowledge, opinions, and expertise. I am looking forward to being part of this community.
